Got another one at last

picked up an XE corsa lastnight, doesn't seem as fast as my last one and the engine looks a bit different, but is in good nick and sounds fecking loud....

having trouble getting the pics up

what would be the 1st mod i need to do?

spec:
-spitfire leads
-twin spark, sprak plugs
-straight thru zaust with big bore back box, muist be about 3-4", perfect for a corsa.
-chipped
-green air filter
-boost valve

chap reckons its about 180hp

am thinking of going to 200hp

first of all, take your dream cap off

180bhp is not that easy!

for 200bhp your looking at at least carbs or TBs, possibly cams, management and maybe some headwork!

and PS thats a 16XE

its a 1.6, so 180bhp from those mods is serious dreaming

[edit] yes, so it is then. In which case 180bhp from a filter, exhaust and chip (plugs and leads won't do anything) is a bit suspect. 108bhp ATW maybe!

[edit again] Aside from that, I quite like it. Haven't seen any in that colour, suits it quite well i think!

i said that the engine looked different and was told its just a plastic sport cover :)

one problem is that it seems to hold back at high revs?

if your old one was a C20XE or 20XE, 2.0 16v

Then this is a completely different engine

its only a 1.6 16v

just seems to be very flat in power when you get to about 5k on the rev meter

ill double check the engine, log book saying 1.6, but i think he just hasn't changed that

Logbook says 1.6 because thats a 1.6 engine.

Check the plugs - I had some "performance" bosch ones before and they were utter turd, caused the same flat feeling at high revs.

Looks like a 1.6 to me too, that cambelt and engine cover wouldn't go anywhere near fitting a 2.0.

That is blatently not a XE, unless he sold you it with a 2L bottom end! lol

Its a 1.6 mate and the fact it runs out of puff at 5k is because they are slow! ;)

its cost me a little over ?2500, is this alright even if it is a 1.6? thats probably why its a slower than i thought it should be

Well technically he's done nowt wrong, as it IS an XE. Just not the 2.0 version!

Although the 180bhp is complete toss if thats all the mods it has!

Iirc the X16XE doesn't have an AFM, uses a MAP sensor instead. The throttle body is mounted on the right-hand side of the manifold (when veiwed from the angle of those pics), and the intake hose from the filter goes all the way around the back of the engine, over the alternator and starter before coming back up to the throttle body. Or was that just the C16XE that did that:roll: :confused:

i cannot remember off the top of my heads mr mikey. the C16XE does have a MAF meters but the X14XE and X16XE engines do use the MAP/speed-density input instead.
