Nova L then? Looks fairly clean for the age

Steve
23-01-08, 10:28 PM
Aside from the rust on the wing/valance that looks pretty mint!

Paintwork polished up nicely too :thumb:

Whats the boot like for rust? not much i'd imagine

As for the sr door bottoms rover tempest grey or I believe peugeot cossack grey (I think) would be best for a mk1

novacabrio
23-01-08, 10:36 PM
Use Rove Hurricane grey its almost and exact match. Also add a "snow plough" to the front bumper, keep the rubbing strips and add to 3 spoke and you've a very tidy little car!!

John
23-01-08, 10:46 PM
Wahey! another old skool nova! Love it! When is the xe going in?
Ps i have a mint snowplough for sale.

maxlee
24-01-08, 12:50 AM
thanks guys

i did look at snowploughs but i am not paying over ?20 for a bit of plastic lol

missed a set of 3spokes to day on ebay went for ?18 and they were just down the road :( but i did get some 40mm- springs off a member to night that i will be fitting on with shocks (back shocks leaking so needed for mot :thumb: )

going to make it tidy but still got to remember its a lurner car for the girl friend who will also use it to go and see her mum in london :wtf: dent city so not spending out big money

looking on ebay it looks cheaper to buy a unfinshed xe nova insted of doing it your self  (thoughts on this i wouldn't mind doing a 8valve one day)

i'll give you ?15 for the snow plough my highest bid :D

i'll keep updates coming :thumb:

>>4:31am<<
after looking at some other nova's i see what you guys mean when you say it looks clean now i will take some pics of normal rot places on it if i am up tomorrow befor the sun goes down

maxlee
06-06-09, 01:11 AM
time for a update i think

we have still got ptr

the old engine died at the start of the year so i bought a 1600 astra mk2 took the engine and box out of that but couldn't find a dizy for under the price of what i payed for the astra so bought a 1200 engine cheap and have fitted that
(just my luck 2 1400 sr dizys have come up cheap  ) sold the engine now goes tomorrow.

my girl frined spend a day cleaning the engine bay up it looked new sadly i haven't got time to clean and detale the engine as she needs it on the road buy the end of next week

also cleaned off the service rust zink primmed it redoxied prime over that ready for paint holfords don't stock and can not make it so had to fit engine before it was finshed :(

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v424/maxlee/nova/CIMG3013.jpg engine just in
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v424/maxlee/nova/CIMG3014.jpg
Before i put the 1200 engine in the nova i fitted new cam belt, water pump, thermostat, oil (engine and box) filters, plugs, leads and a better 2nd hand rad grand total of £160 ish so far on order is to rear wheel bearings. tomorrow i am going to get two bottom ball joints and maybe if back balance alows two front bearings (fingers crossed) then all back to gether and in for mot wendsday if all goes to plan.

at the moment ptr looks a little like when we 1st picked it up from standing for 3~4 months :( but a day with the mop etc should have it looking good again

wish it was my car as i wouldn't be so fussy and it would have cost alot less lol over the last few days i have found my self taking the clutch leaver out cleaning it painting the top and greasing the moving parts also painted the front shocks etc and reundersealed both front inner artchs

will get pics up end of today :thumb:

Looking good mate! You got her running yet?

maxlee
07-06-09, 10:27 PM
dont think my girl will ever sell it lol well not for some time yet

got new bottom ball joints sataday and 2 bottom arm bushs coming tomorrow :) i found were the sqeek was coming from that pissed me off.

i had the engine running for 3sec's joycey then shut it off as i need to get some thred lock for the bottom pully and tighten it.

i'll get anther bay pic up tomorrow i have added clips from the old engine so all the leads and pipes are held in place a little tidyer then standered

any tips on how to change the bottom bush's for my work tomorrow??
also stripping and cleaning the front calipers of the mk2 astra and fitting them as the sliders on the drivers side front on the nova are sticky and scored :(

maxlee
08-06-09, 10:05 PM
ok i foregot pictures but had it running for a little wile today temp gage goes up to 1/2 way then the stat opens and it drops back down like you have unplugged the gage :) never did that before so happy days.

i was running it, wating for the fan to cut in but just after 1/2 way the water comes right to the top of the bottel
(did run it for ages with the lid off to get the air out) so i am going to try a new cap tomorrow and get a fan switch, were on the gage dose the fan normaly come in at?

bottom arm bush is done  its sitting on its wheels on drive on ramps at the moment as you need the wate of the car on the floor so when you do the bottom arms up you dont damage or twist the bush by then lowing the car down witch moves the arms up (hope that makes sence)

best way to fit new bushs' is to burn or drill the old ones out then go buy some cake :D from the shop and take it to a garage and pay to use there press with it, lucky i have a mate that works in a garage so didn't have cake tax :thumb:

so fingers crossed it will be in for mot thursday should pass as nearly every thing is new i also got my 2 new rear bearings today so will fit them asap so i know they are good not the the old ones are shot i just got a pair cheap so bought them

only bad thing is i am skint :(

getting there lee, nice progress, done a good job of the resto work with welding and underseal by the looks of it.
looks dead smart in the outdoor pics youve got with the 4 spokes on it.
is it going back to that look when its ready ?

If its any use to you, the fan kicks in on my 1.2 carb when the temp gauge is half way or a tiny bit past it. And it remains half way with intermittant fan until I drive it on an open road, and then it sits about a quarter on gauge
