Parked up at mcdonalds talking to a guy about his car just leaving the car idleing and next minute the thermostat says it's BLOODY HOT HOT HOT!!
So my mate then says ya car is on fire so i looks at the bonnet left hand side and their is loads of white smoke.

So i turn everything off pops the bonnet and takes a look and the coolant has leaked out and is boiling hott/ i then left it a bit and let it cool before removing the cap and adding some water.

I then drove home and got my dad to take a look and for some reason the fan behind the grille aint working at all. We checked all the fuses below my steering wheel and the electrics under the bonnet and can't seem to find out why it aint working so do any of you lot have any ideas on why it's not working.

P.S I have now left the car and coolant to cool down completely then when it's done that will top the coolant up because it's only half full.

wire in an override switch, or get a new fan switch

The IN CAR fans (heaters) work that's what i have cooled the car down with on the thermostat.

thats fine

i mean, on the bottom corner of the radiator, is a switch with two wires coming out of it

either replace that

OR

bridge the two connections, so fan is permanently on, or run a switch to it so you can switch it on

That's a good idea...

The guy that owned it for 2 years before me is a mechanic and i work with him so when/if i see him tomorrow i will ask him why it's doing that.

Maby it was going when he had it.

Yup, or the fan itself is knackered, although it's not that likely.

If you have a volt meter you can test to see if the fan is getting power, if it is probably means ya fans nackered, if it doesn't then as above, re wire a new switch

had that on mine, got a new rad switch at halfors for about ?3.50 and problem solved.

just bridge the 2 wires.

or extend the wires into dash and put a switch onto it..easy.

this will atleast be fine for now until you want to fix it properly..

bridging the wires will tell you if the fan itself is fubarred or not, 9 times out of 10 it'll spin like crazy (if the ignition is on), pointing to the fan switch in the rad being at fault.

Whilst changing the switch you might aswell give the rad and rest of the cooling system a good flushing.

Aye my dad came out with a piece of wire and bridged it so it's on all the time (only if ignition on or engine though).

Thanks for ya help guys will get it properly fixed in a few days.
