Hi,

OK I want to fit a diggy dash. I have used the "Search" thing but I want to ask a bit more, my dash is currently a good 20-30mph out. Would changing the dash fix this or not?? (It?s a 6 dial and I think the previous owner fitted it)

It seems to be out by double / triple as soon as the car starts moving if that helps what would you recommend changing?

Fitting the Dash

Is there a link to a fitting guide as I couldn't find one and are the difficult to fit assuming you have all the correct parts, but is a bit or cutting involved,

Thank you Tom

Fitting the digidash may fix the speedo issue as it uses its own sensor in the gearbox and wiring for the speed. Not sure what would cause that problem in the first place though.

Regarding physically fitting the dash, is it a mk1 or a mk2 dashboard?

Mk1 dash needs hacking into to get a digi to fit.

Your speedo could be more out than normal if the drive head is mis-matched to the rolling circumference of the rims, there should be some text on it in the middle that says W=xxxxx, if that's vastly different to the standard clocks that could be why it's so far out.

I wouldn't worry about it mate, most of the speedo's of these cars aren't exactly accurate anyways!

I would however, put another set of 6 dial clocks in though. The shiney tin foil covers don't do it for me either!

^^^ true, Mine read pretty much bang on at 30, then gradually got more optimistic as speed increased, to the point where an indicated 115mph was only showing as 95 on the old tom-tom (straight line on an airfield).

no mate ...
main issue for speedo errors is incorrect wheel/tyre dimensions ..

It sounds like you probably have the wrong transducer for the speedo. If you work out the percentage error and obtain the type of transducer fitted (by its markings) you can work out the correct transducer in terms of pulses /per wheel revolution.

hmm somehow i may be steping on some people's toe's here but you may be jumping in too quickly without stateing what it may be and very cheap to fix i had this on my old cav and all i did was new speedo cable and hay presto it worked a treat..

but if you do decide to go digidash as i am at some point when i get time to wire it all up i do have a wireing diagram if you may need it?

When I fitted my rev counter I had the problem of it being out mostly because I removed the speedo dial and when you replace it it puts the reading out. Sorted by driving along at 30 mph and sticking the speedo dial back on, then again if you're fitting a digi dash anyway, then what I have just said has been a complete waste of time lol lol.

But thats going to be the main cause of it :thumb:

Hello,

Well thanks for all you input. Reading that there?s a bit of "cut and stick" with the digi to fit I think I will just put a GTE 6 gauge one instead.

Is there a thread were it tells you how to get the original one out and new one back in (with out cracking and messing up the surroundings with a Phillips flat head  ) I?ve had a poke around in search icon but I can't see much in great detail,

Thanks once again for all you replies:)

Column shrouds off, unplug the stalks from the column too. Steering wheel off can help a lot too (SR/GTE style ones). lever up at the bottom of the clocks with a strong butter knife (yes that is what I find best), then wiggle about by hand untill out.

Or do you mean replacing the individual gauge?
