View Full Version : Standard Speakers
I've got a 'J' Nova Sr, so its got the mark 2 interior, how the feck do I get the standard speakers out the front?????
Do sony do those cheap replacements?
thanx
get a haynes manual and be prepared for lots of swearing!
Best to leave em in there and build mounts for your new ones (easier).
Failing that you have to remove the grill civering the speaker and I think part of the dash (the bit that houses the lights for easier access), they are held in with clips (I think).
Haynes shows you how - sort of...

its takes longer but i found it easyer,
mines a mk1 but sure there simaliar.
take the dash off, hard work i know but then ya sure ya aint knackering the screw or cross threading.
not a quick job but ya can also clean the dash and everything whilst ya there
Cheers boyz, to take the dash out though I have to take the dials out and to do that I have to disconnect the speedo cable!
How do I do that, from the dials or from the gearbox??
Any help
Thanx

well i just got mine out, dash i mean.
do you have a haynes manual mate?if ya dont give me a shout and i copy the page bout taking the dash out 4 ya.
right get a small flat head screw driver under the clocks and gently prize them out,be carefull not to chip the dash though.
when the clocks are out there is a catch thing jus push it towards the clock, and wiggle the cable out,its a easy job,
but remember where all the bolts came out, mark every thing etc,
as i said if you aint got a haynes manual email me and il copy it for ya
ian
if its a mk2 interior and u have a mk2 dash (the one with the 2 central air vents) then haynes advises getting the speakers out as follows (suppliment ref 13.51)-
remove speaker grill (on clips so just prise off)
If left speaker remove glove box and light panel to get access
Drivers side -
remove the air vent housing (its below the speaker) by undoing the 2 screws on the side of the dashboard (between the dash edge and the door) and the front screw behind the vent grills. Remove vent housing. It then says undo the screws securing the side of the facia and pull it carefully outwards at the top (unsure what this relates to). This gives you an access tunnel to get to the speaker through the air vent.
Using a small child or girl with slender wrists ( :o ), put their (or your) hand up the hole from the vent. The speaker is held in place in a kind of slot. U need to grab the back and turn it (I think) anti clockwise and then pull it down through the air vent hole. Dead messy
Refitting is the reversal of removal (or what ever!)
:?
Thanx for the advise :D
If only it was that easy, the other day I thought why dont I change some of the bulbs in the dash board(really crap at night you cant see what you are doing), so I got the allen key and took the dash apart, I got to the clocks, undid the facia and then couldnt get to the bastard bulbs,(the speedo cable is obviously attached to the back of the clocks but I couldnt get my hand or even a dead hampster behind it to undo it) I thought I know I will undo every thing I can see and see if that helps, DID IT FECk. Now I have been driving around with the speedo and clocks open as I cant get the plastic cover back on.
I know this has no relevence to I.C.E but theres no harm in asking

Thanx for the offer, the car is away this weekend getting preped for its MOT which runs out on the 20/07, so fingers crossed for that.. :|
My mechanic has had it for the past 2 weekends, already he has fitted new front discs, 40mm springs all round and a new choke housing. He has to have it 2moro as well as he is still trying to weld the car back together as he said "it looks like a tea strainer", he said the cross member is fecked. I've spent ?500 already so it had bloody better PASS. If not its time to make some fone calls a get a dodgy one
I live in Ashtead near Junction9 M25, maybe we could meet up at one of the cruises in Guildford?!?!?!

no afence but it sounds like your car pretty far gone, and if its a J reg i should be needing alot of welding if at all.
mines a D and its got no rust/welding.but then again it has been garage all its life and wasnt driven since 94 till i got my hands on it.lol
No offence taken, the car pasted yesterday no problems, cost me ?600 though. But that did consist of new 40mm springs shocks, auto choke and new discs and exhaust oh and a lot of welding!!
Mate do you know how to change the thermostat? as the auto choke seems to be playing up and I think it needs changing.
Yeah my cars on the road....

wont u the thermostact,trust me,
600 qwuid ouch,
not worth it
?600 is a lot to spend in one go but it was better than buying another crappy car which might of needed more money spending on it!!
The way I see it is I will use this car off until I have paid off my bank loan and then buy a new car....
My car is well clean though so I wasnt that bothered about spending money on it..
NOVAs ya gota lovem!!!

but buying the new cars is a good idea,
newer the r less chance they break down.
