I want to know how I can get my 1400SR to waste a corsa gsi, basically,my mate has gone and bought a corsa gsi and wont stop going on about it(everyone has a mate like this)I want to make my 1400 to have a good go at chewing his up,I was thinking along the lines of a 4 branch, system and some bigger carbs,I cannot spend much, and I gotta keep the 1400 engine at the mo  anyone got some twin 40s kicking about? or even 32/34? advice needed please! I just want it to not look slow!

well I would think a 4 branch manifold, get it bored out, and a some twin 40's set up on a rolling road shouldn't be too bad

yes do engine mods but,
get cav gearbox.
and lighten the car,
tear out back seat, carpet, rear shelf, sub etc.
alloys way abit so say good bye 2 them,
lighten ur car up as much as u can,it will make a diffence

What gearbox fits from a Cav?

I thought they were all fitted with big block engines apart form the 1.4, which came with the F10 and some 1.6's, which i guess came with the F13.

I'd have thought these 'boxes were the same as the ones with the Nova?

you would need alot of tuning,m definately 40's and a cam + exhaust

Tip number one, decide what you want, and build your engine all at once. Might seem expensive, but it'll save money in the long run.

You want to consider the following:

Carbs: Twin 40's

Head: A decent modified one such as Blydenstein, as the standard 1.4 is crap with very small square ports. Failing this, use a 1.3 cylinder head which is much better and will obviously save you alot of money.

Exhaust: No getting away from it, you need a full system and four branch.

Cam: go for a peaky one like a rally one, you'll have loads of torque if you have the above, so don't worry about loss of low down stuff.

That should give you more than enough power to see of a GSi, mine used to see of 2.0 16v Astra GTE's, but don't forget to sort your Brakes and suspension, corsa's don't handle too well, so sort this out and you'll be laughing at him through every bend.

Oh and as already mentioned, loose weight (nothing personal) it makes a huge difference, mine was a bare shell with just buckets and sterring wheel.

Oh, fogot to say, stick with your gear box, it's about the best there is, you could possibly add a final drive to it from a long ratio f13 box (sounds strange, but it has a close final drive of 4.18 to your 3.94)

If you are going down the different gearbox option. I have got a cavalier f13 in my gte, the top end is well over 130mph now as it is doing 130 at just over 5000 revs, the problem with it is that towards the end of 4th and all of 5th it is a very slow pick up, it will stay at 4500 for ever then a slight hill and it will rise up again. I want my standard box back !!!!!!!!!!

just curious........what sort of power u would need to see off or at least stay with saxo vtr's. i was pissed when one full of nobheads whupped my ass

made myself feel better by whupping some asshole builder in a merc van later on

i drive a 1.3sr with full janspeed, jr filter and weber carb

Well Saxo vtr's have 90bhp as standard as opposed to a 12 year old sr which had about 70bhp when new (prob less now due to age unless its v well looked after). In theory you have 20bhp to make up, however a 1.3sr weighs about 750-800kg i dont know how much a saxo weighs but its gunna be more prob around 900-950kg.

So bhp per ton SR = 90.3
VTR=97.3

From these rough figures it doesnt look bad, you just need to increase your power to weight ratio by 7bhp.
To keep up with him you'll be looking at headwork plus uprated cam. To kick his ass you'll need to add twin 40's aswell.
You should seriously consider uprating your suspension and braking systems, these wont increase power but will allow your vehicle to maintain control at higher speeds on bendy roads. Whereas the saxo is renownd for its shite handling and will struggle to keep up with your tuned sr as it goes round corners like its on rails! Hope this helps

Why bother screwing around blowing cash on a hatch?

Instead of looking at small improvements in performance on a car, consider replacing the whole thing.

Consider this. How much might you spend on your Nova to make it go faster. Now add in what it's worth.

On the other hand, spend ?1500 on an old 200 and have 180hp and rwd, which will wipe the floor with just about any fwd hatch I know of.

fuck me why didn't i think of that????

oh yeah this is why.......hello i'd like to insure a 180bhp rear wheel drive car that can top 140mph please............and how old did u say u were...........errrrrrmmm...19.......click burrrrrrrrrrrrr.

insurance on a 200sx at 19 is about 1700 quid,
he has a point because mod a car jacks the insurance,
but buying a standard car is a special as ya own nova which you have done and there isnt anther one in the world.
but i understand his point.
you want a laugh,
ive got this old range rover which was left for my by the deaths etc etc.
any how 1986,auto,3.5 v8,
used to get batta by sr,tho the v8 makes a nicer noise and is nice inside.
any how i go p***ed off with this,so bye bye inside air con etc,got a decent zorst,
and it thrashes astra GTE.
weight is the key to these thing, alloys are heavy, well most, seats r heavy,ICE is heavy, get fiaba glass wings, say bye bye to a body kit,and get something light.
remember kit cars, they can have no power, bascial a ford esaort, but they kick nova GTE because there light.

Do what the stock hatch boys do. They make the best of what they've got and to succeed have to be very good drivers. I would advise going to see what they get upto and maybe get yurself on a trackday. Good drivers can make even the slowest cars fly. Use your nonce and make sure that you only race him on roads that you know well and that are well suited to yur car.

thats the best advice!

I only ever race cars on roads that i am familier with and take the chance that the other driver dosent have less fear than me....

Beat a scooby one day by doing a roundabout at 100mph he wasnt willing to take his 10k motor round like that.

Know your cars capabilities and loose all fear, you will beat most things.

gd advice, but whilst ya saying bout road racing remember the old bill.
at the moment there going round in nice motor at cruises etc and nickin ya and having it all on video.
my advice is to race sum private, but if ya gota do it on a road, that u shuldnt, make sure u know the other driver.
i.e his insuance

lol some one isnt a very good driver,
whos seen that jag on the m1 ,that is seriosuly fast,i watch it over take a escort cossy, then stop him
after saying all about the cop cars, theres a copper who goes around the esate on a moped and i have the joy of over taking him in first gear on my yz, ha ha.
no but remeber the old bill are really cracking down on the boy racers and there doing anything to catch people.be sensable ok.whos seen the producer pad.it says percing, hair style etc,
remember if ya caught over 100 BYE BYE LEGAL DRIVING.
and at the end of that day i daught most nova owners can control a car at speed safely, and remember these cars are getting old and a 1.2 shouldnt go above 70 safly, brakes aint good at that speed.
im not saying your all bad drivers, but majorty of nova drives are young, jus passed there test and think they rule the road.and aint aware of what power they have, they can pick who lives/dies.
if ya really going do things like this do the advance driving thing,
1 it drops ya insurance,
2 u learn how to drive safe.
remember 96% of drivers would fail there test if they had to resit.
