You'd think it would be easy... you order a water pump for a 1.6 8v and a cam belt cover for a 1.6 8v... they should fit...

The problem is the brass plate on the water pump doesn't fit though the hole in the 'belt cover. Question - Has anyone got the right part number for the pump that fits through that type of cam belt cover, or should I just cut the plate off?

This is one of a long line of fcuk ups from Vauxhall's parts desk

hi ash

i recently got a new waterpump for my 1.6 8v and had the same problem.
my solution was to just trim a bit of the plate with tin snips, so it would fit through the cambelt cover.

hope this has helped:thumb:

The back plate was ?22.55, the front upper - ?7 something and they've yet to order me the right lower cover so I don't know on that yet
There's a rear cover in stock at my local Vauxhall as they ordered it instead of the lower front

Cheers stu, thought it maybe the case, but its not ideal

Same here. Never seen that plate.

There are many variants of cam belt covers for the 8v, Vauxhall even got my old one wrong twice even when given engine nos!

Sounds like the grinder will be out then lol /baxter style/

Just found my old water pump and it has the same brass coated plate, which sits inside part of the early cam cover casing (with the round top)

Cheers for the info :thumb:
