Astra looks to be Clelands BTCC Astra GTE from the early 90s?

I think the Astra may be a replica, wheels arent BTCC Spec single nut hubs, and look to be just caps over stanard 4 studs, I think it also had a side exit exhaust from looking at pics

I am sure the Nova of Mcraes is a replica aswell as Jason Lepley broke the original car a few years ago but the ID is still alive somewhere, its not been taxed since 98.

IIRC they did have signle hub nuts back then. It's only this year that the european S2000 regs have come in which state you need 'standard' type hubs, ie 4/5 stud

Car look awesome, i'll be seeing them tomorrow anyway:cool:

Read it again fella, he is saying it should have a single nut hub but appears to be 4 stud with single nut effect covers

The car at the Autosport show is 100% a replica. Colin's Nova doesn't belong to him, but it is being restored to how he had it.

The Nova has some Coltness Car Club stickers which makes me think its 'living' in Scotland?

Wonder why they would want to run Coilovers as well...

Not quite 100%, dont think the original ran coilovers! Not sure about rear calipers either, shouldn't they be AP's.

Yeah i agree with you ste:thumb: I was real in to btcc back in the day Cleland won the championship twice 1989 in the astra and 1995 in the cav.

Was thinking looking at those pics they cant be the genuine ones as they will be battered and stone chipped bent and twisted to hell and they all look concours/brand new so they surely must just be perfect copies?

The coilovers would be wound higher for more suspension travel I would imagine...a mate of mine did this on his rally Nova.

Winding them up shortens the spring and travel? only reason I can see is to stop short springs falling out on max droop.

A lot of cars on display at AutoSport were just 'show replicas', the BTCC was a replica as the the rear 300mm+ brake discs were tack welded to some bells and the front brakes were some pathetic looking 256mm ATE jobs !! A couple of the WRC Focus's there were just 1.4's with a body kit and some stickers !!
The genuine cars will have been bent / stone chipped / twisted many a time while they were getting used in competition, its just that they get rebuilt ... good as new !!

Winding up springs past the point of location only preloads the springs

But ye ofc the travel they grant can't be ignored

Sorry, I meant the car is definately a replica, not necessarily a 100% true copy of Colin's car as its obvious to those sad enough (ahem) to see.

Colin's car wasn't a works car so he could run any rear calipers that adhered to the Group A regulations.

Coilovers on the rear were homologated on the Group A 1200 Swing and 1300 Sport in Dec 1984.

When i saw it at lepleys (easily 10 years ago) it was in a very sorry state. i purchased the full exhaust off it which i still have fitted to my rally car.

his mk2 was sold before he died, that was out on the christmas stages at croft! still going sounds the bollocks and goes like stink too! anyone who has been moaning about the size of the pics too, the reason that i left them that size is so that people can use them as desktop backgrounds! hope this is ok! :)
