1.3sr vs 1.4sr

Can someone answer a question, i told a mate that i was going to get a 1.4sr and he told me i was stupid and that a 1.3 sr is quicker becuase it doesn't have a cat. Could some clear this up please, which is quicker, and which is better?

Scott, I have owned both a 1.3 SR (1988) and a 1.4 SR (1990) and I can tell you that if both cars were totally standard and had a similar condition engine the 1.4 would comfortably win a race. The 1.4 Sr's don't have a CAT because the are not injected, thay run off a carb, although on the 1.4 SRI's I beleive the CAT does slow them down, I have heard de-catting a 1.4 SRI can give you upto an extra 10 BHP, but I don't know how true this is!

Wot has been said is partly true. The Nova SRi is the fastest out of the 3 (1.3SR-1.4SR-1.4SRi). Ur mate is thinkin of the Standard nova 1.4i, which only has single point injection.(60bhp) not the SRI with the multi-point-injection(82bhp). U could decat the SRi for some power gains, but u would have to keep swoppin it back to pass the MOT. Unless u coukd find a J-plate which doesn't have to have a CAT.

1.3sr 70BHP, 1.4sr 72BHP, 1.4SRi 82 BHP, 1.4i 60 BHP, but the SRi is slightly higher geared slowing the acceleration.

the cat does slow a car down, for that reason an sr is faster of the mark than an sri! Don't go looking for a j-reg sri u won't find one where u don't need a cat, as nething after 92(when the sri was made) has to have a cat!

i have a k reg sr (carb) which had a cat, just to trow a spanner in the works, ive binned it for a full stainless and its way faster than a 1.3sr or an sri.

I have a j-reg 1.4 Sr I have bin told this is a single point injected engine. How true is this? It has no cat!!
