Project Rust Bucket

right im adam im 15 ive owned my car since about the 20th of december ive been holding off doing a topic since i havent got much money to do alot to it at the mo and it looks a right state but im bored now so i thought i would post it up

Its A Mk2 vauxhall nova luxe+ with a random 3.5" backbox (fitted when i bought it) came standard with electric windows and central locking i bought it for ?50 and found ?7 inside the car hehe it has a foxgaurd? immobliser fitted and i also got given a clifford copy alarm of my sister boyfriend which i have fitted messy for now untill i get round to hiding the wires ive also bought a pinoneer headunit with a kicker sub and amp which i have wired up my self and i have got a set of cav sri alloys (just to be different) i have fitted only the front ones for now becuase i needed to move the car and the front ones didnt have any tread on and couldnt get up the drive ive bought some bonnet pins off ebay dont know weather ill fit them or not and hopefully ill be buying a set of gsi clocks for it in the future i am going to buy new wings new doors and new rear arches and new bumper (might get one 2moz) i am going to keep it the same colour for now untill ive pass my test and been driving for abit becuase i dont want to be worrying about my paint all the time when i am finally driving but when i do respray it i was going to do it flame red or breezeblue i was finding it hard to decide which one untill novalad pointed out that theirs plent of flame red ones already i am going to lower it 40mm or 60mm havent decided yet new exhurst thru out and a induction kit :)

First, is that Minera or Hope mountain?

Second, seeing as you've got plenty of time before you start driving it, I'd reccomend stripping out all of the interior (and giving it a clean), then getting rid of any rust and thoroughly undersealing it, fitting new flexi brake lines, new fuel lines, servicing/rebuilding the engine etc.. so that its a properly solid car by the time it gets back on the road :).

its hope mountain looking towards brymbo and ffryd(sp) i was going to take the rear seats out today and passanger but ive got alittle bit of space issue :( havent got a garage built yet we nearly had one but the stupid builder couldnt build a wall stright and even and ended up nearly putting a mini digger into the kitchin lol

yea alot of people have told me to take pics as it is and how it looks at each stage so ive had me camera out most days i dont need a excuse to camera whore so im loving this lol :) hopefully i want to work in a bodyshop so these pics and what i have done to it should help a little :)

yea as u can see from the pics today the sub is out and the 6x9s all whats left in is the h/u and the wires running to the boot but their in the middle of skins in the boot :) plans for 2moz are passenger sear out maybe drivers depending what im like for time

well my plan was to wake up early take one seat out go with my parents and then take the other one out but i woke up late went out with parents and it was raining and dark when we got back so i didnt bother lol

i was gonna take the carpet out but i couldnt work out how to take off the seatbelt rail by the door i unbolted it but couldnt work out how to un attactch this bit..

From what I remember... You lever the plastic thing out of the sill and twist the metal piece out by unbolting it at the other end?

found out what it was, the alternator belt was kinda missing lol so i bought a new one and fitted it sunday only ?2.90


i also got a corsa airbox from the scappy ?3,
going again this weekend and gettin bumper and at end of the month ill have enough for 2 new wings :)

and then in march is my birthday so should beable to afford some new doors then or second hand and some rear arches :)

my advice as i have been were you are ebut with a difrent car
sell all the sound system because the time you are driving it it will be so out dated you will only throught it away and buy new stuff.
only buy/do things that wont change or go up in price
brake lines flexi pipes etc, wouldn't bother fitting new discs or pads just do the body work and undersealing like said already

in 2 years time the digital head units will be uber cheap :thumb:

is that back box a good fit?

and did the clocks just plug in and all work or did you have to make some changes

ta :) the back box seems to be havent been under it yet only to check the rear legs, and yea the clocks fitted stight in only thing i needed to change is the speedo cable just re routed it slightly but other than that perfect fit

loooks like you could pull off a big sheat of under seal ther :eek:

one of the best places to get underseal from is holfords ?10 for a tin that easy dose a big (lwb) transit so easy to cover a nova :cool:

whack some filler in those 2 dents.. smooth it off and spray it up the same colour and re-fit the numberplate and grab handle :thumb:

right not a update as such, just that i had a good chat with my dad and we worked out that i wouldnt "modify" it untill i got 1yrs ncb so basicly it will have a set of alloys and thats it, also i have been sanding the gab handle down ready to smooth it, is the best why for a boot popper a central locking servo?


edit: also i am aiming for the wings and front pannel to be replaced, put on for pv and sprayed, should be fun to have me car their and to put the bumper on ofcorse

i didnt like the colour at first but now its growing on me :) should have the front end sorted towards end of march, getting wings for birthday on the 13th of march ;) hint hint and with the money i get hopefully i can afford a front pannel and crossmember and after that all what needs doing is doors rear archs and 2 holes in the boot plating up :)

When we chatted on your driveway, and I asked was your engine a carb one, you said yes. You were wrong lol.

Yours is the less powerful (but more economical, and better in the cold) SPI or single point injection model. Basically, mine is mechanically fueled, and yours is electronically fuelled, but detuned to meet emission regulations.

any tips on how to put a gasket on and keep it inplace because i thought i had done it right and then run the engine for a min and went round the the engine bay to find a nice spray of used oil on my freshly blasted cover :(

it just seems like it doesnt wanna line up for my poping out in some places and twisting and going in, in others help lol :D

All 1.2-1.4 8v rocker covers are all the same so gasket should fit quite snug.

only thing i have bought from halfords is the ice and underseal
and the only thing i am buying in the future is primer and stuff like that no mods i like the standard but low look :)

** Update **
Went to pick up the doors and bonnet today after gettin lost for 1hr then having no signal we went in search of a phone box and then a fookin woman spent about 15mins talking on the phone ! finaly got intouch with Courtnova16v and he came down to meet us and we followed him in his nova which sounded lovely to his house got to see his mint project aswell :D picked up the doors both doors in trailer and bonnet in back of the car nearly got home crusing at 60 i told my dad to slow down but he said "it will be ok there not exactly gonna blow out" 2mins later my dad shouts **** ! i looked in the mirror and their was my door about 15ft in the air i nearly cried as i watch it crash to the floor and slide about 50ft down the road :)

Moral of the story
dont listen to your dad
and tie you doors down lol

bad luck with the door hey but it looks an easy repair, the proper works gonna start now then hey, when you take the doors off be careful with the pins that hold them on cause if you end up Fu*king them they are a right pain to get out, whats the plan now then, put the doors and bonnet on? get the new rear arches in etc.

the inner arch is gonna get plated/made up tomorrow if it isnt raining...
the wiring it all neat and done proper with crimps and connectors the pic was how i found the wiring thats why i put the pic up to show how bad and dangerous it was :(

most of the front arch (wheel well) and behind the crossmemeber so theres no where to weld the new panel onto its do'able but would lost alot more ??? and tons of welding and my dad doesnt want to risk doin all the work and then it failing my dad is looking for a new nova for me and said he will buy it for me so its all good :) but ill miss it when it goes :(

100% ****ing gutted traveled 80ish ****ing miles just to be bloody told it got sold 15mins ago whats even more annoying is that my dad stopped off to look at a motorbike which took about 5 mins and then got lost in wigan abit which took about 15mins and bascly got to the garage turned round just before there and drove 5miles back just to find out that it was the right road :( felt like crying

Turning it on its roof sounds like a lot of hassle to undo 4 bolts and cut 2 pipes and 1 cable :p.

the windscreen is going into the other nova as it doesnt have a toptint :) one without toptint will be up for grabs if u want that one insted

lol i was amazed how smooth it went down lol, we just dragged the engine out thru the wheel arch to where it sit now been told tomorrow while im off school to strip the engine of all its pipes and useful things take the gear box off the doors off the hatch off and all the glass out and drill the spot welds on the 60/40 rear seat brackets for vaughan, all by my self think my dad thinks im some sort of machanical expert guy lol

it was no where near roadlegal to tow or anything cant get a car transporter because i live up a narrow lane so i had cut it up to fit in a trailor
