Hey guys, going to look at a redtop tomorrow, just wondering the main points to check whilst looking over the car.

Its a 1.6 GSi shell with a c20xe lump.

any pointers?

Theres not much that can go wrong in the engine install, just check the alterantor clearence, and the heater matrix inlet pipe clears the inlet. Pay attention to the wiring though, ive seen some seriously dodgy ones in my time. The main thing to check is the starter and alternator are running on the original car loom, not the engine harness. If the starter/alt is wired to the engine loom instead, you can bet your bottom dollar the guy didnt have a clue, so expect the wiring to sub standard.

I'd be looking for some strengthening of the engine bay as well, and make sure its got uprated brakes too!

Look out for pigeon poo welded together driveshafts, laugh all you want but people do it.

Welding is recommended but i wouldn't say it was compulsory. It certainly wouldn't indicate a bad conversion, and can be done later.

Bear in mind Mark Watt's Turbo was never welded :)

Ive been told its running the gsi driveshafts with cavalier inners, is this bad?

its running a monotronic ecu, that mean anything?

also, its the same engine as this 1, is it worth getting?...

No

No, standard XE injection

Yes, most definately :) Bear in mind most XE's are tired. Normal rules apply looking at the engine itself.

150, but expect it to be outputting less due to age and wear.
