was having a read of fast ford today at work and nearly fell off my chair while reading an article on series 2 RST's

according to fast ford an exhaust, air filter and chip will see an otherwise standard S2 run 170-180bhp

Not as far fetched as it sounds, you can wind the boost up and chip the crap out of those engines.

They dont last long though lol

What are they std, 130 bhp ?? doesn't sound impossable. Same kinda thing with an LET, Phase 2 chips / FMIC .... will see you at 280 bhp !!

didnt think of it like that but its still only a 1.6 so i doubt it would last long

Its a CVH, wouldnt last long whatever the capacity lol

If i had a CVH i wouldnt have made it out of the paddock! lol

Joking aside, Dars dad runs an RST lump and it goes like poo off a twig.

Perfectly possible, your forgetting "chips" and boost increases do offer very good gains for turbo'd cars.

mate had 185 from the same setup but with cams roll road fig so yeah its poss.

All CVH's need or have had a rebuild after being tuned for a while. Everyone wants to go big spec & 200+bhp after a failure too.

Mate of mines was built at Power engineering to 200bhp spec & my Courtenay 1600 would eat it. We fell out.

Escort RS's have a really crude injection system too. Much rather be seen in a Nova XE tbh.

Adam

Indeed, old skool mech injection on a tractor engine with a turbo fitted.

that's being insulting to tractors. mine runs common rail injection, a turbo with intercooler the size of rutland, semi auto box, aircon & a cd multi changer.

Adam

Ok then, an old tractor :p lol

The replacement EFi wasnt much better. Mate of mine kept blowing the fuse for it in the most inconvenient places.

Like already said Mr draper, chips on turbo cars to have a big increase in power due the fact they can up the boost. Doest mean it'll last long though lol

I'd say thats probably right, add a -31 and front mount you'd probably be on parr for 200bhp on a healthy engine.

I'd agreee that a poorly maintained MFI system does let the rs turbo down, the EFI is better and you get a nicer chatter noise. Still i belive (and am prepared to get shot down on this) that a well set-up and maintained MFI system is better than EFI, ALS an real time mapping aside. I think that they are very cool cars and would own another one. Pop it in 5th on a nice stright road and it will just keep pulling.

Chassis lets them down though, anti roll bars and poly bushes only do so much to a 20 year old escort.:tard:

180 hp is easy work out of a cvh, combine that with a zvh conversion and you'll see nearer 230 on the same boost.

Fiesta turbos can be chipped to 195 hp with a actuator and a set of 701's for not a lot of money too, heaps better than the escort as its got proper fuel injection, non of this old skool tat that unless well cared for is more hassle than its worth.

I'm not really sure why you disbelieved it tbh, its not hard to get power from a turbo engine, making BIG numbers is as hard as getting proper power from a NA engine.

?500 on a standard cossy will see 330+ hp, now that is a quick motor for just a ?500 modification, also being correct wheel drive you can have some fun whatever the weather lol :D

Its not quite as simple as just turning the boost up but its a feck load easier to get the numbers you want than all this NA stuff.

Totally depends on what your after though, NA gives really linear power curves, thus you rarely get wheelspin and if you do its very easy to control, turbo engines ofcourse tend to have nothing for a few seconds then SLAP the power comes in.

A sensibly powered turbo car does make a really nice daily drive though, effortless as there is always a lot of torque available low down.

you can get big power out of cvh engines easy, but they're still not that great, a lad round our was has a fiesta rst with BIG bhp especially compared to my standard xe, yet i managed to pull a cars length infront of him:D

Turbo's can be economical (depending on boost) & unless the charger is really big, still give a sensible power delivery. Makes for safe & fun overtaking etc.

Non of this scary ass V-TEC crap where you play a waiting game. & thrash the nutts off it, thus poor economy. A turbo'd car could perform a similar overtajing manouvre in shorter time & use less revs/fuel & gear changes.

Depends what wheel drive Escort were talking about :thumb:

A rwd Escort is far better than a nova, but you can't build them on a budget like you can with a nova, that is why I keep fecking around with novas as whilst I'm skint and my project is on hold I can afford to throw together a nova and go and have some fun :D

The Ford world hate Vauxhalls, I personally like them both but there is far more Fords that I like over Vauxhalls.

Then this guys big power RS Turbo isn't big power :p

A 180hp Escort RS Turbo on the road 80 onwards would not struggle at all to keep up with a xe nova. I say 80 onwards as most RS Turbo owners seem to enjoy blazing the wheels up through the first few gears lol

my mate had a 225 bnhp fiesta turbo , it was fecking fast but he used to brake it trying to race my mk1 gte which was more reliable than most of the daganam fleet

From my experience of racing anything in sight when I had my xe nova I'll admit you can waste most things off the lights in a xe nova.

A guy round here had a nice Evo 5, I'm guessing only standard but being 4x4 I wouldn't dare race him off the lights, anyway one night I was heading to my work for something and I see this car approaching VERY fast in my mirror, as it pulls up behind me I realise its him so I lent over and turned the old nitrous on.

Whilst approaching the next roundabout I slowed down really early so I was mid revs in 2nd going over it, just as he thought about overtaking I hit the throttle and to his suprise I shot off whilst smoking the tires up LOL

He then chased me to this unknown private road near the A1 I know of and at this point I did think I'd get wasted but he pulled up alongside me, gave me a nod and we raced off, once again I totally wasted him LOL

His excuse was probably that he had a car full of passengers, the benefit of that was 4 more people knew he had his **** handed to him by a nova.

That is why I love novas so much, that car didn't owe me much, it was a daily driver with a stock xe and on gas was making near to 280hp so it could hold its own against most things :)

nice! my mate keeps badgering me to gas my xe'd nova, and yeh they are great off the lights, i happily pissed off someone in a scooby the other week, its always better when they laugh at you before you launch lol their faces arent so smug afterwards :D

bloody superb that the very reason most of us build these cars, we like to be different and also underestimated .

its a great feeling watching someone in a ?50k car (ie e46 m3 )

and waste them completly . i had a style ****er in his m3 behind me at a private carrigeway (bypass). i let him get into position to overtake me , i let him get along side me then in 3rd brung the boost in and left him out there and continued to piss my self all the way home .

he turned off before we could pass gestures (shame ) but i did see his face

priceless

First race I ever had in my nova let was against a FQ330 Evo, 2nd gear out of a roundabout it was a dead match till we backed off ha ha, that was only when it was on standard power, had the original sxi steel wheels on it and tbh still looked like a TD nova in grey lol
I was looking where I was going but a bird I was with was having a right chuckle as the couple in the evo apparently looked a bit shocked that they couldn't get past.

Strangely enough the owner of that evo had a connection with Nokia who my mate worked for and she did actually meet him a few weeks later, she asked him about racing a nova and his reply was "oh yeh, the one with the tail light out" lol had he of got past he may of noticed the intercooler and oil cooler hanging out of the bumper :thumb:

Do it mate, if your not willing to convert to a LET its the next best thing, I must of put about 40 bottles through mine (mainly as we sell the stuff and I was forever giving demo runs lol ) it took it with no bother at all.

100 shot really makes the engine come to life

200 shot as per the green nova a mate and myself own is enough to light them up in 4th, and thats with a welded diff  were now using some sensible settings on the controller as the nitrous delivery was FAR too aggressive

Yes it was mate, 200/100 jetting @ 3 bar using a minimax on the 41k old xe ;)

I ran a 13.05 @ 109mph with that setup on Yoko A539's

Adam
11-01-08, 06:42 PM
Lol, yes mate. Name change
Sounds like a top result. As you said it must have been giving around 280hp, as that times similar to what ph2 ish Let's run.

Jonlem
11-01-08, 06:51 PM
I'd say on that on jetting it would of been 250hp, the engine was totally standard bar the ashley group a system and a showercap.

I later jetted it to 130 which is all the standard solenoids will flow, the last 2 Santa Pods of that year got rained off so I never got to put some times down.

On a 130 shot we ran a 12.5 in the green one, obviously that is MEGA light compared to my old one and runs 888's, in all seriousness on the road with 200hp hit it scared me LOL

I nearly parked it in a ditch whilst Turbo Gav was following, I opened it up in 3rd, hit the gas and it ripped the steering wheel out of my hand and swapped lanes, I had to get it back so quick it then went sideways, after a bit of a snake I managed to get it back under control, Gav then pulled up along side me with that OMFG look on his face as his 400hp GTR was simply blown away ha ha

As soon as that is back on the road I promise to get some vids as altough its the most dangerous thing I've driven its also the most ammusing thing to watch when using the nitrous

Vid of old white nova with 100hp:
