I'm nearing the stage now where I need to start looking at a roll cage. I'll probably go for a weld in cage with most extras like front triangulation, diagonal, door bars etc.
Who produces the better examples? I'm not after OMP or Sparco ones but more made to order ones like Fabricage and Custom Cages.
What have other people got and how much roughly (PM me if you prefer) did it cost as I'm looking for a decent price too?
Any particular reason an OMP or Sparco wont do? As you can add another 200 quid at least for the custom jobbies, as well as quite a few extra kilo's!
From my experience with rally cars, the Custom Cages are second to none, although you'll pay through the nose for one!
In all honestly, you'd be best going for the likes of Sparco or OMP unless your going for some "proper" motorsport that requires serious amounts of safety so to speak.

They might be ok, but I'd rather get everything done at once whereas all the OMP and Sparco ones don't have the extra bits I want. I've looked around a few sites (need to ring a few places really) and found that the multipoint weld in cages offer more value for money although they are still to assemble and since they're a bit cheaper I may even go for T45 stuff. I would need someone to weld it in for me though, although I'm sure I could find someone reputable for cheap enough.
Is the OMP cage the one where one of legs going to the rear strut is too short?
I'm thinking if I could get a proper multipoint cage and have it installed for under ?600 that would be acceptable. Although its over and above what I really need and more like 'whats the best I can get'
You can get OMP cages that are a 6 pointer, 2 rear, 2 centre and 2 front legs (through dash style) im not so sure about the Sparco gear though.
Custom Cages can make upto 14 point (IIRC) depending on the car/shell style.
If you want hardcore, get a 8 pointer :) with a nice hefty harness bar in the back :thumb:
EDIT - Like so...minus the 2 centre points that weld/bolt to the trans tunnel.

For a custom cage, I've heard good things about RollCentre Racing Cages. ?450 or something. I was going for one before I bought Dan's shell

Nooo, OMP build them to order. When i ordered mine from Rallynuts, they had none in stock so they had to order mine separately, and it turned up with that fault. We have many theories, but Im pretty sure they guy who built mine was stoned out of his head lol. Ive never seen another OMP cage like it, and i couldnt be assed to wait 4 weeks for another, as it was ready for welding.
OMP has door bars as standard, and Dan just picked his up for a shade over 400 quid. As much as Fabricage etc.. cages are nice looking cages, IMHO theyre overkill unless your going stage rallying, and do no more but to add extra weight. A bit of extra bar can create a triangulation at the front which is what i did.
Not trying to sway you Tom, just giving you food for thought lol

Nothing wrong with Omp cages, or Sparco ones.
Have a look at this link

Its alot of money.
And if you bought an of the shelf cage, extra bars can be purchased, cut, welded and fitted to suit any extra requirements

tom buy a bolt in !!!!
omp etc
youve seen mine mine is a custom cages weld in and it took a load of blood sweat and tears to do !!!
plus they cost a fortune the only reason i went for it is because of what the car is used for
have you tried rollcentre im sure they will do you a bolt in to your spec ie front trangulation
my old safety devices cage in my old car was bolt in and had all the "extras"

Hmmm, plenty of food for thought lol
Best thing I can do I think is ring round over the next couple of days and weight up all the options. I understand where you are coming from Lee with the overkill and extra weight, thats the main point swaying me at the minute. At the same time though I want a nice spangly cage lol
smcgsi16v - Thanks for the link, makes for interesting reading  If I get a Custom Cage I won't be getting them to fit it!
Hmmm, makes an OMP one even more appealing now!

I'll bear that in mind matey and give them a ring tomorrow! I'd still rather get a weld in though.

Can't fault my RollCentre cage, just a 6 point bolt in but could easily weld it in / tag it / triangulate to struts, decent price to ... plus there comfy to sit on eh !!
Get yourself along to the AutoSport show this weekend, speak to the guy in person and tell him exactly what you want, good discounts to be had at the show as well.

Is it possible to add to a Safety Devices cage? I currently have rear hoop without diagonal.

Not too comfy IIRC lol I think they are leading the race at the minute. I'd attend the show but I well and truly snowed under with coursework this weekend, still, I might get a lump done tonight instead.
I know welded cages are condidered better, but surely if a bolted cage was triangulated and tagged to the pillars it would be almost as good?
