id of thought thats either an over fueling issue hence the leave a while and it restarts or the timing is out ??

You did swop the tank and pipes didn't you ?

i have also left the old 1.2i fuel pump on there could this have something to do with it and if i took it out could i just replace with fuel line or do i need another fuel pump or can i use a fuel filter as there is a mehchanical pump on the 1.4sr engine already

I'm not an expert at novas but from what i have read since been here you need to change the fuel lines and tank if going from a injection model to a carbed model. or visa versa.

how come i would have to change the fuel lines are the pipes bigger or smaller could i get away with taking the injection fuel pump out and just replacing it with a fuel filter or just fuel line

If you have chnaged from a injection engine to a carb 1 then you have to change the fuel lines and tank.

agreed

how have you rigged the choke cable up?

its a automatic choke

But when you switch to a carbed engine it is then manual choke and you should have rigged the choke cable up

southard

no its still an automatic choke as i have changed it to auto choke

its a automatic choke

I suggest you get it to a garage quickly.

I used to have an automatic 1.4Sr choke.

Just sounds like you need to swap the lines you should be able to use the mechanical pump without any issues which is already mounted on the engine block by the sounds of it which would far better regulate the fuel input.

Ive absolutley no idea what lines or tank your running but ideally they want changing for the carb setup.

Is the injection pump running? (I imagine not)

I think having a carb tank will be the best idea.

Does the carb have a return line (I cant remember)? Sounds like the carb might be being over fed fuel. Either way get it to an old school engine specialist that knows carbs, should be able to sort any carb or timing issues.

yes i have the injection pump running and the mchanical pump so there both running together

You don't want to run the injection pump. If the pump is in the tank you will want to either get another tank or remove the pump.

Your problem is that a injection pump is designed to build up alot of pressure. An injection system relies on a fuel pressure regulator to back up the pressure (Say 50psi) in the lines and across the fuel rail. When the fuel pressure is reached the excess fuel is returned back to the tank.

A carbrettor pump is designed to pump up to a pressure (Say 3psi) and switch off. An engine running on carbrettors does not have a fuel return line because the carbs keep a resevoir of fuel and then the pump does not deliver any more fuel.

So what your doing is running a pump that will just keep pumping fuel in to your engine at a high pressure on a system that relies on the fuel pump running at low pressure and switching off.

The first thing you should do after reading this is disconnect the injection pump.

There is no need to change fuel lines though since the only reason you do this when going from carb to injection is because of the higher fuel pressure.

Weber 32/34 has a return...

Dar is right.

yep does as dar says and remove inj tank and fit a carb one , should be fine then

but all nova's except a 1.0 have a return to the tank :thumb:

ok i have completely changed my fuel tank to a carb and got rid of the injection and changed all the fuel lines and still having the same problem not as bad but it still happening a garage i went to today says it could be my ignition timing even thogh the lines on the ignition timing are lined up they tell me it could still be rong i have not tryed this yet as would prefere some advice on doing this could this be true that my ignition timing is out or do you think the garage is miss leading me i have also changed all my spark plugs i think my self that the fuel mixture on my carb is to much its a 1.4sr standerd carb is there anyway i can change the mixture as when im driving around im always smelling petrol but there is no leaks

id say do a manual choke conversion

mine has the same problem and does the same thing lol, was a 1.2 converted to 1.4sr but runs fine as long as u boot s**t outta it, suits me lol. sometimes works perfectly, sometimes splutters a bit at low revs. not gonna bother fixing it tho, need it to last 2 weeks then going to 2.0 16v power. 1.4 engine for sale lol

try changing the dizzy cap and rotor arm and make sure the ht leads are on the right plugs ( lead 1 to cylinder 1)

and make sure the return fuel line isnt blocked.

hope this helps.

good advice dave, turned out the rotor arm was buggered on mine and was causing the aforementioned problems, was about to tell him to do the same lol
