was given my brothers gsi and he bought it to the garage the other day, just started to strip engine out at the moment but having a wee problem with the crank pulley bolt, will be going in for bodywork once my other car is done, just wondering on any thoughts on whether to keep the engine standard or make it that little bit better, and any suggestions for tuning.
Has been sitting in a garage for three years so bodywork is a major issue.
cheers

doesnt look too bad from pics..seen worse.

you could put a 4 branch manifold and exhuast system on it, a k&n panel filter or induction kit (which will add a little power but really it just makes it sound better)lol

or you could put a highlift cam, uprated ecu etc or throttle bodies/webber twin carbs..depends how much you want to spend!

keep it up and let us know how you get on..

Worthy of restoring, easily.

Re the engine. I'd recommend a big valve flowed head, have the inlet plenum fluid honed to open it out a touch too. With a 4 branch tubular manifold & a cam it'll be pretty sprightly tbh. Not exactly cheap but not enough std engined GSi's around anymore.

a few small repairs here and there and will be back on the road in no time, looks pretty smart.

finally got the crank pulley bolt off with some help from the mrs, started stripping the engine down piece by piece, because i dont hav a block and tackle me nd my brother are gona just lift it out so tryin to shed as much weight as possible atm.
The inner wings need some tlc to.http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x310/joeleeman/09012008090.jpg

havnt put anything on this for about a year year now, had a very slow strip down process and was unemployed for around 6 months, now finally have the time and money to crack on, have decided to fully restore it to nigh on concorse standard. i want it to look and be basically factory fresh, so an untouched nova gsi.
will try to get some pictures of it atm on soon cannot find my camera cable.

Agreed!

Craig, can you point out who does this fluid honing please? I haven't a clue, and as far as Holland is concerned, we're not a tuner-oriented country unlike Blighty... Cheers.

With a 4 branch tubular manifold & a cam it'll be pretty sprightly tbh. As for the cam and big valve head - I decided pretty much the same thing, so I got the GSi a CS15 head from Courtenay (essentially a Blydenstein B+ head) and their "torque cam", along with a stainless BTB exhaust system + manifold. Nice.

Not exactly cheap but not enough std engined GSi's around anymore. Yes. Oh yes. Expensive.

So not a 4 branch manifold then I suppose? TBH the OEM cast manifold isn't too bad in terms of power delivery. Heavy though!
