Hi (my 1st post on here!)
I want to get a nova as my first car. I don't want to mod it much, prob just alloys as i like them mint and original! I've got a couple of months till I can drive, but have already been looking at some. Went to see one last week at a local dealer(very helpful too!), heres the spec: 1993 K Reg VAUXHALL Nova 1.2 lt Spin
76,000 miles . Immobiliser, Cheap tax, Full Service History, Low Insurance, Stereo, Sun Roof.Ideal first car. ?1,695.

It's flame red, very tidy, no visible rust, had 3 owners. My dad gave it a good test, checked all areas and only prob seemed to be weakish brakes, but not knowing novas very well people say their brakes are weak anyway. Since then, they've put it up to ?1695, they did have it at ?1495. They said the best they could do was ?1400. That would include:

New M.O.T
Pre Delivery service
3000 miles/ 3 month warranty on the whole car, which they said they would start when i started using it in october when i'm 17 cus it would only be in the garage till then anyway.

It's got all the points I'm after, flame red, mk2 style, very tidy, okish mileage etc. Only thing is, do you fellow, experienced nova owners ( 8) ) reckon its a good deal or is it overpriced. The bloke at our vauxhall dealer said he would pay ?1000 max for it and parkers says 1080 for one in A1 condition. But this does have the extras such as sunroof, immobiliser etc. I really need some help as i don't want to miss out on a good un!

thanks,
Griff

If the car is from a garage you will find it will normally be more expensive.

Have a look through Auto trader. You will find the same type of car for a lot cheaper.

If ur worried about something going wrong mechanically. DONT!

Novas are really easy to work on. Most things can be changed by your self if your capable of doing the simplke jobs. And there not to expensive to fix either.

Just make sure you check the car fully before you bye, so you dont get any problems.

yep - seems a little steep for a 76k K reg. If its minted (no rust around rear arches or in the boot well) no mods, standard 13" rims then I'd look ?1,200 max.
I'm surprised the price has gone up though - if they had it at ?1,596 and its upt to ?1695 and the cheapest he can take it is ?1400 ask him why its gone up ?200 - what have they done to it in that time?
Your best bet is to look in the autotrader - u can get minted novas for less mileage for 1/2 the price - just get em checked out before hand - see all docs and your laughing!
:D
If nething goes wrong just ask on here for advice - V helpful!

i got an absolute mint J reg 1992 1.2i Luxe plus from a little garage for ?1200, take a look at the place that is selling it, if it's all scrubby and run down then be bit weary of the car, take a look at the other cars he's selling, u can tell alot about the way its run. Be careful and make sure u know about warenty or anything, i didnt get one but i said that if i get any problems within week or so woud he fix it, he said yes.

Its bound to a bit more expensive when buying from a dealer, but you do have a bit of fall back if you find a problem within the warranty and the new mot will save you a few quid for 12 months.

The brakes sound spot on!!

Have a look around before buying dont just buy the first car you look at.

Thanks for the replys.

I too thought it was too dear at ?1600. The dealer has two places and they have now moved it too the other one a few miles away. They seemed genuine and were willing to help, but wouldnt budge much on the price. The car has no rust, boot is spotless beneath carpet and has a brand new spare wheel. I been thinking on why it could be so much (rough guesses here):

parkers say that age and model in A1 condition = ?1100
factory fitted sunroof= ?50
immobiliser= ?80
warranty, New M.O.T etc= ?60
dealer whack= ?100
total= ?1390/ 1400

what does that look like? make sense?? I have seen a few cars b4 this one. An old f reg, mk2 H reg 5 door and this one. I prefer 3 door in mk2 style in flame red. I just don't want to miss the one that may be just right.

I forgot to say, I found this on auotrader and they garage it's at is listed as an autotrader dealer, they have an autotrader style website. So that must be good.

Fuck what parkers says- if you think its worth it, you like it and its mint then get it.

Firstly, Hello, Welcome to Novaload...you chose the right site to sign up to :)

Secondly, the price does seem a little steep. However, It sounds like it's an immaculate car that could have come straight out of the factory. I think the reason why the price might be so high is because the Garage knows that standard immaculate Novas are sought after by many people (hence why the Nova described by novaexplode was cheaper). Theres always peeps on here looking for an immaculate shell to start a "project" car. If you can, try and knock the garage down. If they don't budge and you lose out on the car, then don't panic. There will be others.

You wont be dissapointed with the Nova. Spongy brakes come as standard, but there not that bad ;)

i bought an E reg 2.0i 8v with full bilstein suspension, 15" alloys, top of the range toad alarm + immob, full GTE interior in mint condition. Just some rust around the sunroof for ?1150. Got written off, and insurance valued it at ?1500. Less my excess i got ?1000 back so i have have lost ?150. I then went and bought a 1.0 F reg with one millions miles on the clock but NO rust for ?370. Swapped everything over so car is exectly the same spec as the 2.0i SR. Spent another ?50 on bits and bosbs. So for ?370 + ?150 + ?50 (?570), i got a mint F reg with full GTE interior, 2.0i 8v engine, full suspension and alarm, immob, loads of other bits. And because the base car was a 1.0 and not a 1.3sr my insurance went down too. Phat!

...and of course you explained to your insurance company the extent of your changes. And they said "of course sir, we won't increase your premiums..... much"

actually my premium went down ?20. Thats because my insurance company basis the insurance on the original car but modified so example:

1.3sr nova ?1000
alloys wheels +2%
spoiler +1%
2.0 conversion +7%
TOTAL ?1300

1.0 nova ?700
alloy wheels +2%
spoiler +1%
2.0 conversion +9%
TOTAL ?784

So that is why i decided to get a 1.0 chassis and stick two litre in that!
