Hi all

First and probably only post for me on here.

I run an MOT station and someone has just brought the above car in for a MOT test as they have tried to sell it but I think they are asking too much! (?3K)!!

However, it needs to go to an enthusiast. It's got genuine 5800 miles from new and apart from a few chips on the edges of the doors where they have probably hit the garage when opening them, I would describe it as mint. It still has all the wax stuff on the engine/gearbox/inner wings. The tester has described it more of a PDI than an MOT test. I really would not be lying if I said you could touch up the door chips and win every concours competition you entered it it. I would snap it up like a shot if I was into them but I'm into old Fords myself. I really, truly have not seen a better example of a car since I left a Vauxhall dealership in the seventies and I was carrying out PDI checks. I'll get the customers number and take plenty of pictures before it leaves and I'll send them on to anyone interested. It's that good it just has to go to an enthusiast. The car is in East London. Again, I have no interest in this car other than seeing it go to someone who will appreciate it. Is ?3K too much for such a car? It wouldn't be for say, a MK1 Escort - that would be worth 3 times that!

Steve

So whaddaya think - what's it worth and what should I offer! I'm assuming that the GSI is the one to have? Are they rare? If I got it I would keep it boggo standard and perhaps show it. Comments?

Get this, there's a service book inside showing Vauxhall service history:

29.7.92 - 0740mls
30.7.93 - 1285
29.7.04 - 1647
2.8.96 - 2016
4.8.97 - 2186
4.8.98 - 2449
2.8.99 - 3072
1.8.00 - 3681
4.8.03 - 5584

and then they started using it less. lol

I have an interesting proposition for you.

I happen to have a minty mint Mk2 XR2 with 35k on the clocks. I noticed you are into your old fords, would you consider purchasing the GSi and taking my XR2 in part-x ?

Thats if Mk2 XR2's are your thing... long-shot but i'd fancy the swap ! Pictures can be seen, it's truely a stunning car too !

^^^

Anymore than 1k is out of value for a nova if your talking in terms of the open market...

Enthusiast prices will make them higher, annoys me when a lot of people don't see that. Similar to people paying 15k + for cossies etc, again probably better faster cars for the money but people pay the money cos they love the cars...

Stoo
11-02-08, 08:11 PM

good points stoo/mike...

Non chav image for a start, un-burstable range of engines, better equipped, safer, import parts are cheap from the US etc etc etc etc oh and some Honda panels come already painted from the dealer (Civic bumpers do, under ?100 incl vat for a front or rear, already painted)

But who wants to drive a Civic?

TBH, this is the same as comparing my Dad spending 20k+ on a Austin Healey, 20k+ could have had him an E46 M3 BMW (plenty more car for the money)

Im not comparing a Nova to the Healey by any means, but its the same scenario.

Car buyers that price cars for ? to ? can't really be an enthusiast for that exact model IMO.

What about K95VHD for ?4k? G904 YNB for alomst ?7k no-one seems to look at those as that overpriced, ?3k is not overpriced, ?5k is.

Stoo.. not getting ****y at all... I dont really care tbh..

But what I am saying is that your opinion wont matter one tiny bit if Mr 'X' is wanting to buy a MINT/Low miler and will pay ?XXX to get it!

Your opinion is that 'its only a nova..blah blah' which is fine. What I am saying is that if you had the money and wanted a rare Gsi with no miles on it, you would buy this. End of.

So what I am saying is that you are missing the point.... Its probably one of teh only Gsi's in Europe with less than 10k on it. Its impossible to put a price on it.

ITS WORTH WHAT SOMEONE IS WILLING TO PAY!

;)

novacabrio
12-02-08, 10:33 AM
with SRIMON and Will F on this, its worth what someone is willing to pay, I hate jap cars, can't see why someone would spend the money on them, for what I have sat in value in Novas I could probably buy a new Corsa VXR with my staff discount at work but I don't want one, just as I don't want some crap that is no longer good enough for some jap idiot who has driven the car to with in an inch of its life. Jap sh*t is every where you look, Novas are rarer and going up in value maybe not on mk1 escort scale but its definitley happening. What I paid for G904 or what K95 went for is probably getting on to the highest prices will go but they are worth every penny if you compare them to what they'd cost to build and people don't think (including Stoo when he built his Nova) about spending ?4k to restore a GSI or ?7k to build a xe Nova to a good spec but winge when it comes to shelling it out in one go.

If you've got the money and want the car, what others think isn't relevent and this whole argument is pointless as someone will spend ?3k with out hesitation to get this car, its probably the most original GSI left. If it was a sport and unrestored with 6k on would it be worth ?3k? Probably as they do ?1-2k when tatty!!

Young at heart me and dont look a day over 18 Martinlol

A car is worth what someone is willing to pay, and when it comes to cars we all know that can mean silly money;) Supply and demand... If people pay big money for cars it pushes the market up, for example when i bought my Evo the VI was the one to have so they demanded more money, were they worth it? no, but i wanted one so i had to pay it. Same with the air cooled VW, early Ford etc.

Ive just payed ?8000 for a splitscreen bodyshell, work that one out! I wanted one so i had to pay, sums the discussion up really me thinks:thumb: At the end of the day they are only cars and we all have to spend our money on something...

Back to the thread lol, is it for sale Mr Pitstop?

Right

and what will the book price of a civic be worth in the same amount of time period, about the same I would imagine.

Those who are comparing this to a 3k jap car are wrong, compare a Nova GSi to a XR2i, 205 GTi, Golf GTi all of which fetch excellent money if like this very low mileage and as new! I saw a 8000 mile 1.6 205 GTi fetch ?6k the other day. Worth it? No, not when you can get a gazillion BHP scooby for the same money :tard:
