I have posted on the chris astley site about getting a copy of the fearless strut brace for C20XE and LET owners. He said he can get them done but really needs someone with an orginal to copy.

Is anyone able to help? perhaps an outline on paper or yours will do!

I wouldn't mind one as well - original or copy

But been told they don't fit the 1.2 engines?

Copyright?

Aye, can't see Fearless being to chuffed if your planning on blatantly copy his !
Why not just make a similar one, surely not gonna take much figuring out.

What about Fearless running off another batch?

I don't see any problem with them being different, the smallest change gets round copyright laws. Unless anyone has the contact details for fearless and they give agreement or start manufacturing themselves.

Rallyman is going to be the one to get them made, i'm just trying to find a brace rather then going to the trouble of taking a car to him.

I don't see why it should be a problem, it's not like you're trying to undercut someones product.

The fearless ones havn't been made for years !

reply from fearless.

I don't have any problem with people 'copying' my design - at the end of the day theres not a lot of variation on the routing of a strut brace on a C20XE/C20LET - it can ony go from one strut to the other at the end of the day ;)

Whether it will be of the same high quality alloy brace - I'm sure Chris Astley will produce a very good copy - probably in mild steel :thumb:

Quite a lot of work went into the manufacture of the brace - the strut top braces were machined from billet alloy - the tube was solid alloy

Haven't got any design drawing etc - As your aware - every nova is different - we just manage to get a best fit brace - with a small amount of filing to finally fit !!!

Good look with getting one made

Cheers

Dave

Wonder if Mr Astley could have one made up in the same design for a 1.2 with standard air-filter...

I'll be intersted in one in steel, as it'll be sprayed black anyway :)

Let us know some prices

Anybody genuinely interested in this, I know the guy who made them for Dave/Brett back in the day through my VW contacts and I am in touch with him. He said he'd make some more, at around #120 each (the same price as 1998) BUT he needs a definite 10 ordering with 50% deposit! If you REALLY wanna do it proper, get the real thing, not a copy!

Anybody interested?

Well, i suggest you start a new thread, put in pics/prices/deposits and put it in the for sale section.

"calling fearless strut brace owners" in general chat is prob not gonna sell many when they already have one! LOL!!

I am, pain to adjust damping on the shocks though, have to use pliers as the key doesn't fit in.

Jeff16v

Does it still bolt in the same way?

Hi

Your right i do use adjustable top mounts and a Fearless strut brace.
I did have to modify the underneath of the cup where it mounts to get the movement required for adjustable top mounts.
If any lives near me its not on the car at the moment whilst i'am messing with bias pedal box so your welcome to take a look.

Cheers

Does it still bolt in the same way?

Yes, only difference is the bolts pass down through the brace into eccentric top mounts rather then having the thread sticking through the turret.

My top mounts didn't need modifying as mine have the bearing pointing downwards, most seem to have the bearing facing upwards.

Hi

Here are some pics i took last night to show how i had to modify the 'feet' to accept the adjustable top mounts and get the movement required.
May be of some use to somebody!
