View Full Version : Info on Boeing 777 engine in a nova

Lee

I want to be a bit different with which engine I next put in the Nova. Ive been considering fitting a Rolls Royce Trent 500, but im not too sure on what gearbox / shafts to use.

Does anyone have any info on the conversion? Will I need any different engine mounts?

Someone told me id have to run it on Optimax too, as it may pink a bit on regular unleaded. Is this true? Apparently I could lose up to 4,000 horsepower if im a few Ron under spec?

beat me to it !!!!

make sure the engines at a 32degree angle tho, otherwise the thrust will lift you into the air mid corner just like my mate daves

A good friend of mine has two of these engines in his Austin Mini, so i'm pretty sure its possible to fit it to a nova, most likely using pot rivots and glue.

and a bit of silicone aswell

cant beat a bit of gaffer tape too, that'll help hold it in

I think it would actually be easier to fit a nova into the 777 engine..

Philsutton

You can get away with the standard rubber mounts, the extra 3000kgs of the engine wont be a problem as vauxhall designed them with big conversions in hand.

Gearbox wise you can use the F10cr off the sr, you'll get amazing acceleration but top out at less than take off speed. I know this as my dads mates sons brother has been driving his round for 15 years like that never broke any boxes. And also you can keep the standard shafts this way. Bonus

What about cornering? My mates brothers cousin-in-laws uncle tells me they are pants around corners.

Should I fit a big tail with a rudder?

yeah 1 bar pressure with about 6 million litres a minute flow rate lol

i think chris astley is working on a roof mount kit

I dont reckon so, looks like you'll have to bodge on a turbo from a maestro and use a couple of pages out the the yellow pages to lower the compression

Feck the roof mount, i want the thing under the bonnet, proper stealth like!

my sisters ex boyfriends step dads brother-in-law dogs old owners mums grandsons cousins nephew has a 737 engine in his Nova, he used blu-tac and sellotape, hes using the SR tank+ pump, he says he gets fuel surge round corner but it handles like its on rails.

Hmm, i see a small problem.

I think the cone on the inlet may stop me being able to obtain full lock turning left. What do you think?

fit corsa lower arms to widen the track thus solving your problem

Dar

Nice choice of engine!
Here is some info on it. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pSabZ9BIkc)
I think you will need an engine bay strengthening kit though. May I also suggest 3000lb front springs.

However knowing you this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5F-I08xLWqM) will happen to it once you are on track.

Lee
06-01-08, 03:32 PM
Of course, silly me.

I was planning on calling it the 'Jet T E' lol

I have thought of one stumbling block though. Do you think it will pass the static noise test?

I have also found you a rev counter:thumb:

If you cant figure out the wiring, you can either try using a cranking handle, or maybe one of these?

Lee
06-01-08, 03:51 PM

Does it have a shift light? I plan on limiting the revs to 70750 anyway, as ARP dont make bolts for this engine yet.

Dar
06-01-08, 03:55 PM
Ditch the engine. I have found a better replacement!

I will find you a shiftlight and some RFS bolts. They are more suited to your application. You can even use them with this new suggestion.

All you have to do is invade the hanger at night and knick the baby!
It will be small but powerful:thumb:
Also freshly built, so you have a better chance of it not blowing up:D

is it going to be thrust driven?

i recon you should do it direct drive, through a welded diff to a RWD conversion!!

Lee

PMSL Dar. RFS = Really Fecking Strong I take it? lol

Stu, using it as a Turbine engine is a cracking idea! Proper smokey burnouts!

Stanley
06-01-08, 04:08 PM
I have been tackling the same conversion for a few weeks now and have a few question...

Will the speedo drive from a 91 Astra GTE work with my digi dash and the 777 engine/box? Or will i need to convert it to knotts?

Will a powa boozt valve fit?

What inner CVs are best? Ive lined up some Metro GTa ones and they seem to fit ok. Will they be strong enough?

I have a PS2 in my install but im unsure what in-flight-movie to put on. Any ideas?

Cheers

Dar
06-01-08, 04:17 PM
lol Lee you got it in one. Well done :D
As for your in-flight-movie, may I suggest Crash and Burn (http://imdb.com/title/tt0099313/) Looks great :thumb:

If your looking for more performance look no further than here (http://www.ecotekplc.com/products.htm)

Power boost in a can :)

Also works well as bellend polish:thumb:

Do you have any ideas how your going to connect the stormspring to the ohsmeg valve?

Lee
06-01-08, 04:19 PM
Im going to use a blimey clip. Availiable from Halfords :)

Saloony

The ?2.99 ecu chip works well on this, gives a 1000bhp extra

Stanley
06-01-08, 04:22 PM
Ahh you mean a jesus clip.

In the same aisle as jesus handles and foo-foo valves.

I was thinking about welding extra blades onto the turbine with my soldering iron. Opinions?

Also would a set of throttle bodys from a lotus carlton type R fit?

Martin
06-01-08, 04:27 PM
i recomend you get some spare double over head sprocket monifolds as ive heard these are a problem on the engine in question...

draper
06-01-08, 04:41 PM
luckily oil surge isnt an issue untill 55637263rpm

James P

Ash
06-01-08, 05:35 PM
Think it would be wise to use a 6 stud setup from a frontera TBH

If your going to the effort of fitting that engine, it would be rude not to use some NOS, but i've been told you get similar results from CO2 injection ;)

Stuart
06-01-08, 05:42 PM
I'd say goto chippedUK for a blindin remap init.

dont forget you would need the transponder and flight recorder as without these you have one immobilised engine. Unless you go aftermarket of course

Lee
06-01-08, 05:45 PM
I have already made a black box from an old kareoke machine, so thets sorted!

Lee
06-01-08, 05:49 PM

Get reall ffs, how stupid are you?

Paul
06-01-08, 05:49 PM
Phil suggeusted using a F10CR so can remain originla shafts, and Stu16VT recommended rear wheel drive thorugh welded diff.

(were ignoring fact its a thrust engine) lol,

Lee
06-01-08, 05:51 PM
No, it was Stu's idea to run it like a turbine engine, much like a helicopter :)

Im still laughing at the 4x4 idea. Way too much work and pointless!!!

Paul
06-01-08, 05:56 PM
how about like the old steam engine trains, use some sort of bars to join the wheels to make a 4x4 system?

Paul
06-01-08, 05:57 PM

novacabrio
06-01-08, 06:16 PM
havent read all 7 pages, but I think cable ties may come in handy, have you also thought about some strengthening? youd probably need some 16v brakes, but I dont see the point? It'll still be a Nova, why not fit a airbus a380 lump?

With a 777 engine up front your gonna need a scooby scoop to get the cold air in and you'll wanna put the battery in the boot otherwise it'll affect the handling. My mate used cable ties to hold the battery and some RCA leads (oxygen free) to connect it up :thumb:

So you see Lee, the moral to this story is no matter how barmy/expensive/stupid/dangerous/planet destroying/mother ****ing mad an idea you can think of for a Nova conversion, some 1 eyed yokel has already not only had a wet dream of an idea but actually gone out and built it.lol lol

Looks like your sh1t out of luck Lee. What about trying to fit a bigger vauxhall engine in your Nova, may be a bit easier; say a C20xe from a Cavalier or Astra. Cant remember seeing that done.
Might make the car a bit front heavy tho, and Ive heard their not very reliable and blow up a bit.
