1200 has cathedral ports where it meets the head, 1400 has small square ones, 1200 has a single hole where the carb bolts on, 1400 has 2.

However the 1300 inlet has ports that match the 1200 head, and the 1400 carb ;).

heck confusing stuff ...lol

so the 1400 twin 40 inlet i currently have is in now way compatible with a 1200 head ..?

It'll bolt on, but ideally you need to port it out to match the 1200 head. Get an inlet manifold gasket for the 1200, lay it on the inlet manifold so the stud holes line up, draw around the gasket then get busy with the dremel.

What engine were the 40's on?

What engine do you have?

(carb, inj etc etc or engine code)

the 40`s where on a 1400 i believe ..
i am currently using a 1200 with a 32/34 twin choke webber fitted ......although do plan on fitting a bigger 8 valve engine shortly ...

for the 40s to run correctly on the 1200 you will need to rejet them as they will run too rich and eventualy damage your engine. these carburetors are often so finely tuned that one set of jets may not even suit the characteristics of the same size engine so its important you get to a rolling road so they can do this for you asap. you will need slightly smaller jets to provide less fuel in a smaller capacity cylinder.

ive made a recent post about heads here:

hope that helps

best option :thumb: when you have to start buying emulsion tubes, idle and main jets and even possibly chokes, its an expensive game to have to do it more than once.
