i have been trying for the past few hours to get the crankshaft pulley bolt off of my gsi and i cannot do it, does anyone have any hints or tips?

Put the car in fourth, let it roll back to take up the "slack" in the transmission.
Then have someone stand on the brake pedal.

Then undo it.

Or the other method is,Its a bit risky tho,Lol. Put the socket/bar on the pully bolt, rest the bar against the floor. Remove the coil ht lead so it wont try and start.and turn the engine over with the starter motor(quick flick on the ign key)

or use a impact gun , took mine off in less then 1 sec lol

I found an mega easy, and novel way to do it :D

My engines out the car, with no gearbox attached.....problem...

OR is there?

Using a 4" extension bar for a socket, wedge it through one of the holes in the pulley and "lock it" against the cam cover mounting nut ;)

Rachet in one hand, engine in tother...hey presto.
