I cant see how a set of drawers and gearbox oil is "light" but they are functional thats for sure

Thats Castrol Racing R40 :D No I don't run any of my cars on it but it's one of my all time fave smells. Which reminds me, I have an experiment to perform:thumb:

if it involves 2 stroke oil in your car then no, it doesn't smell as good on the way out, i tried with my toyota carina before it went to the big scrapyard in the sky lol.

Mine tops out at 7,750rpm and the needle on the rev counter just stays pointing at the 7 all the timelol

I do have a shift light on the dash and obviously a rev limiter on the MBE system. I used to hit the limiter on occasion but now I have got used to the engine and can tell when to change gear just by the sound of it. I have never looked at the rev counter and before I got used to the engine I just kept a eye out for the shift light.

If I am setting up the engine I have the laptop plugged in and the Easymap software has a rev counter.

Thats fair enough.

Ive been looking at the various rev counters and its not cheap!

I was going to get one of the the AIM MXL (http://www.aimsports.com/products/mxl-strada/index.html) dashes at one point (But bought the gearbox instead) I may even get one yet. It will be after I have got a new faster engine in the car though.

It's horrible isn't it, nothing motorsport orientated is cheap :( Although a single rev counter shouldn't be that expensive.

Ad, If you are on DTA/MBE etc then so id you dont need a rev counter. Like Dar says use the built in shift light/limiter, OR even get one of those multi stage shift lights like that in F1 (yeah that sounded cheesey), but for road use they be cheap.

Just makes noise testing a bit novel lol

Basicly what im after is this:

Hopfully will mount it on a piece of carbon fibre within the mk2 dash surround

I know i dont need revs but for a track day (which is what its used for) i find it very usefull.

I made the dash at the bottom of the feature pics..... would have been ok (although the speedo was too high to hook up to the cable lol)

My dials \/ (veypor vr2) http://www.veypor.co.uk/xcart/veypor.php does everything from G force, speed, revs, lap timing 0-60, 1/4, braking times + distances, lap times, reaction etc, analyse your runs on PC with graph etc, shift light set to whatever RPM you choose, works out torque + bhp (bit suspect this!), tells you what gear your in.

Really is a good bit of kit! I looked down at that going over line @ Pod it said 114, 1/4mile was 12.9 @ 114. You measure the circumference of your wheel and input that into the VR2, you have a weight on the shaft, and a fixed sensor on the box/body and for every time it goes past it works out speed and distance from that, so its very accurate too!

Whats involved in keeping the heating to clear the windscreen while still having one of these stripped out dashes? (First post :D yey!)

I love the look of the half mk1/mk2 dash :)

I think this is best one I've seen like that - You can still tell it's nova based but ticks the box for modified track dash as well

Oh i remember the fun we had in your old Nova Olly, chasing that ferrari in belguim/france lol

Getting some good ideas here altho its either do it basic ie GSI dash and an after market tacho or the expensive route buy the gauges and make my own dash. Doesnt seem to be an option in the middle :(

Ad, isn't that the one you borrowed for a while ?

I prefer to run a rev counter really, if race cars run anything it will atleast be a rev counter just so you can monitor where you are in the revs.

The Elliott rev counter although basic looking seem quite well used by racers and aren't bad value for money, its just the other guages you need as well.

Don't forget you will want a fuel guage as well :thumb:

Indeed it was JB, its my friends from Plymouth.

Goes very well indeed!!

Im thinking GSI dash as that has speed, fuel and oil pressure, also revs to 7k. NOw i know the new new new engine will rev a bit higher but the mbe has a shift light and rev limiter i believe?

If thats the case then all i would need is a water temp gauge which can be mounted in 1 of the 2 cold air vents in 52mm form.

Ok, so it may not have seen the track yet, but it will do this year:

A bit :wtf: , it revs nearly another 2k further than that lol

Standard dash does water temp as well :p

If it comes to it matey just shonk one on top of the dash, it should have one, rev limiter or not IMO

80mm I've seen the old one taken out and an after market one put in its place. Looked really nice as well.
