Hey everyone, would I be right in saying I can do this?:wtf:

I was going to fit an e16se engine but i may possibly be able to get a C14NZ engine thats going spare for most likely nothing.

As ive never ever really done anything major to an engine I decided that I want to use it as a platform to learn on.

I got thinking about what I wanted to do to it, other than service it 1st but I wondered what about 1.3sr head and a set of twin 40's!

What heads would be best? what cam would be best? and lastly what else would I need to change? bottom pulley? think I read that somewhere else???

Also exhaust manifolds would a GSI exhaust fit? it would mean I wont have to change the rest of my system and I can buy the performance equivalent of a GSI one.

Cheers

For the cost of tuning the 1.4 (to the power of the e16se), and insuring it, I'd just fit the e16se to start with.

yeah same, i wouldnt waste time tuning the 1.4 when it will be cheaper and easier to fit the 1.6

^ best advice here!

Ive been there and done that, i spent a sheetloads on various SR engines then moved onto GTE/GSi power and its much more tuneable in comparison.

As oppose to starting with 70ish bhp ATF you start with 100 :D always a bonus

C14NZ is the SPi engine and its kinda **** to be honest.

IIRC Adam had a quite potent one but as stated, fitting the larger 1600cc engine would be your best bet, and be ALOT faster straight away.

Very true guys but I want to learn here :D plus 1600 engines seem to be in short supply ATM

The 1400 I can get for free I hope and i'll be junking the spi crap.

I just wondered if its possible thats all.

If you want to 'tune' the spi 1.4, remove the CAT, port the inlet manifold and inlet ports on the head, fit the cam from a c/e16se, fit the larger throttle body from a 1.8.

Anything more serious than that will require carbs or aftermarket management, plus mapping sessions, and really isnt worth it for a 1.4.
