Take the 256x24mm discs pads and calipers from the same car as the engine came from.

before the backlash starts!!!! Luke (winty 234) already has a set of 256mm calipers and retainers. What he want's to know is what people have used as a performance upgrade from plain discs and pads. Ie what "upgraded" 256 discs and performance pads would people recommend.

You can get new discs and pads from any motor factors, try the likes of demon theives for 'performance' ones, or tuning.co.uk etc.. Brake Engineering (google it) can supply refurbished/remanufactured calipers ie the ones for 256x24mm discs off a cav/cali/astra.

If you want something better than that, consider a willwood/ap/brembo/tarox complete kit, but expect to pay at least ?500.

EDIT: ATE powerdiscs, mintex m1144 pads, or ferodo ds2500.

http://www.tuning.co.uk/vauxshop/ dont list the powerdiscs but had them last time i asked on the phone.

I'm actually using ferodo 3466 pads from the same place, again ordered by phone, they're old stock as they were the predecessor to the ds2500 series, cost me about ?15 in 256x20mm td brake format.

black diamond x-drilled and vented discs and ebc greenstuff pads (found redstuff a bit rubbish from cold but just my opinion) are always a good combo, had them on my r5gtt ant there was virtually no brake fade from 130-0, plan on getting some for mine

I can quote Lee as saying something along the lines of "I could make better pads than EBC ones out of a cornflakes packet" lol

Dont use ebc greenstuff pads, they melt and fall in pieces lol

Use standard discs with good pads (the mintex/ferrodo's as mentioned)

I use Pagid FR pads, they are awesome. I convinced Chris_SR to get some too and they impressed him as well.

And yes, i managed to actually set fire to my greenstuff pads lol

Mintex M1144 compound for road/light track use
Mintex 1155/Ferodo 2500/Pagid FR/Performance Friction Braking 97 spec for very entusiastic road/keen track use

Std motorfactor discs... Treat discs like the consumable and spend money on the pads.
Bed them in properly (as per pad manufacturers requirements) and use good brake fluid. Jobs a goodun.

I use PFB 97 spec pads with STD GM discs on the vx and it stops very very well (bar the first press of a drive lol)

You were probably using gash pads then Grant lol, theres nout wrong with 256'ers using the right consumables.

Ill give you a stopping contest if you want next time i see you :D

lmfao, that will be the "new" 1/4 mile type race..... who can stop the fastest, or who can stop from the highest speed in the shortest space etc.

Im guessing you wouldnt be able to take part, as the front clam would probably slide off into the nearest hedge lol

the clam is well stuck on, its the fact the ABS would kick in and I'd carry on into the crowd killing countless onlookers.
