Have you got the car running yet? theres loads of spare wires on mine, and if it doesnt affect the running then I wouldnt worry about it.

Im sure someone else will be able to tell you what it does though.

Lee

There should be a blue wite connected to the thermostat housing, although why its in a massive plug with an earth is an odd one.

i brought the nova with the engine already in and i thin the wiring has been propper bodged i'v never seen wiring like it even the fuel pump wireoff the donar hasn't been used (blue red trace) it's a strange one this
im used to the loom just sitting in place most of the time it's obvious
where they go..
did you know lee every time i have a prob you always post i don't think there has been a time you haven't (cheeeeers)

If its in the engine loom id make a guess its the signal for the temp guage on the standard car, but if your conversion was done properly the nova guage should be getting its signal from the nova car loom. its possible its not needed mate, dont get angry until something doesnt work lol

/\ think im prob best put a new thread up when something doesn't work
when the engine is ready for 1st crank but would still like to know what wires/where and what sensors are needed to run a 2.0 8v in a nova ecomomically (spelling)
if anyone has or can do a muppets diagram would be appreaciated (spelling)
cheers once again lee

iirc from steves car, we used everything on the engine harness, there wasnt a spare plug anywhere bar a few small ones which fed auxillary stuff like the washer on the cavalier. Just needs a switched live, constant live and an earth to get it running. I honestly dont remember seeing the plug you put a pic up of, but a blue wire is water temp sensor on all vaux's of that age, so as i said, its either been bodged on or its not used.

Is the big 8 pin plug still on the engine harness feeding the starter / alternator etc..?

Is there a blue wire plugged into the thermostat housing?

just vaux trev
30-12-07, 10:41 PM
blue wire is plugged in just single wire' it's just one piece loom no breaks(8 pin)
sorry for asking this but of what you know what colours go where (engine starter ect)
as it loks like i have 3 wires going to the starter???

Lee
30-12-07, 10:43 PM
im pretty much convinced you dont need that plug then.

Adam
30-12-07, 10:50 PM
Look on the side of the head near the dizzy, see if theres a sensor there.
That plug is 100% a cts plug, tho it looks like its on a spi loom! Why a gsi would have a spi loom hanging about i have no idea lol

Sorry to go off topic but I didnt know they did the pipes for the 2.0 8v conversion? I know they do it for the 16v as everyone seems to have a 16v nova lol
