Got a picture of an M3 rod somewhere that went throught the side of a block, I will dig it out.
Give you this as a starter even though its not an engine failure...

This wheel had been driven on for a while even though it had seperated into two halves, only the tyre was holding it together!!!

Pug 106 1600cc 16v Rod. Part remains of an engine my ex employer blew to bits on one of the BTRDA rally events. Taken from an engine built by Martin Bowyer, a Race Spec engine known as the "Evo 3" package - circa ?8k.
Caused soley by oil starvation.
Gonna try and find the pics of my old brava.
The diff exploded into the bellhousing splitting it from the block , blew the starter off , wrecked the clutch/flywheel , cracked the bolt holes for the box on the block and finally turned the radiator into a watering can with bits of box lmao.
Hope to have the pics soon.

do you want to see what happens to a c14se with stupid amounts of nitrous at 130+ (well of the clock ) over 200 miles from home racing a wrx
the engine didnt cost me 8k but for the money i was earning it cost me a hell of alot to build and gone just like that

aparts from these failures i have not built an engine that has broken anymore than the picture aboves which is nice. no throw rods or droped valve. the big end failure was due to oil surge at high rpm. and ringland broke due to a loose bore and detanation caused by a faulty FPR.
the turbo sheared due to antilag and the turbo running high boost outside its surge line. which killed it. the trust bearings broke due to a loose hose clip on intercooling pipe causing turbo overspeeding and wiped bearing face.
there all simple things but this is how we all learn.
i have picture of more spectacle VG30DETT with big hole in block due to rod going on holiday but i cannot find it :(

oh dear mr Stoo. those rods are of poor manlyness :(
they are the Standard rods in the K20A
they arent designed to be runninga whopping great Greddy Turbo conversion
they are designed for 9500RPM N/A!!
Typical Honda engine failing at the first sniff of torque lol
Bit like smallblock Gm engines tbh lol ;)
wish I'd taken a pic of when my old 1.4 engine packed up - all the tappity bits at the top were all over the place (love the technical term!)
