altimator problem

i have a 1.5 td altinator went on it so i bought a second hand one but not working have since tried 2 more on the car and all i get is the battry light always on anyone sugest where to buy a brand new one or solve the problem anything would be good

You'll find that small local motor factors tend to sell reconditioned alternators and starters that they've reconditioned in house, try one of those and exchange a dud one and some cash.

Does it actually charge the battery?, the battery light is a thin wire signal from the alternator that tells you its 'working', it maybe just a fault on this signal circuit?
