What engine is in the car currently, and which one do you want to fit?

If you did it yourself it would cost about ?200-?300 for a 1.6 8v.

i wud do but im a prison officer so its a bit restrected the time i can have off to do it! also i dnt think i tht mechanically minded! im fine with ice and body styling but wen it comes to engines i got loads to learn!

would the 8v drop str8 in to the engine bay, like line up wid the exsisteing mounts?

You'll need the engine mount that comes with the 1.6 engine to replace your current one on the drivers side, the other 2 mounts, gear linkage, clutch cable, driveshafts and speedometer cable will all work.

You'll need to follow the clear cable from the ignition coil to the ignition switch and replace it, as it is a resistor on the 1l models. The starter/alternator/oil pressure/temperature sensor wires are all the same, but the engine has its own loom that needs wiring up to the engine and ecu, ignition live and earth.

The fuel tank and pump will need to be replaced with mpi(GSE/GTE/SRI ones), and you'll need to wire in a relay and wires for the fuel pump which sits by the fuel tank.

If you use a mk3 astra as the donor car for the engine, you can just unplug the engine loom to transplant more easily.

Swapped a 1.2 for a 1.2, with help from Big Gra.

Its asked enough on this forum that I can regurgitate it from memory lol. The only thing I possibly got wrong is the engine loom, but if you've got the rest done then that bit is easy.

Haynes covers engine removal and refitting, its worth referring to that to get the old engine out and the new one in, then its just down to fuelling and wiring ;).

As long as the shell is in good condition you won't need to do any welding.

Remember to get the gearbox with the new engine.

All the shafts across all the engine range are the same apart from the 22 spline ones found on GTE's/some GSi's
