id definatly get some form of mechanical sterring lock, the silver disc ones have had good reviews

alarms and/or immobilisers arent very expemsive now days and if you ask around at a garage/auto-electrician you might get a good fitting price if your not bothered about a receipt and pay cash ;)

ATM the standard steering lock works... and the car is in my garage over night but i still worry that if i want to park up that it will get stolen or broken into and stuff nicked.

standard sterring locks are made of butter tho lol

you'll never stop people breaking in if they really want to, brickas and windows dont mix

An opportunist thief will likely avoid your car if it has a form of steering wheel lock (metro stoplock) & a flashing LED indicating an alarm etc.

Self fit alarms can be bought for ?35 or so & a bit more gets you ones with R/C/L etc.

Keep any valuables out of sight, leave the (empty) glove box open when the car is parked & avoid a shelf full of 6x9's & the like.

I have some sub carpet for if i get 6x9's in shelf.

Sorry what's R/C/L ?

yeah as craig said its more of the opportunist thief that steals nova's , joyriders etc

the one night that i fell asleep and didnt fit my steering lock to PePE it went missing lol

remote central locking - so when you arm/disarm your alarm the doors lock/unlock

NovaLad
20-12-07, 12:06 PM
Don't i need to get rid of the lock holes then and smooth it over??
Or where do people get them lock covers from like novacabrio had on the GSi

draper
20-12-07, 12:08 PM
you can leave the locks in place, or weld a plate over them and smooth it off

NovaLad
20-12-07, 12:10 PM
What are the things i have seen on novacabrios (ex) car?? like some sort of hole plug lol.

They are simple machined lock blanks that bolt in from behind.

Mine were made by the same chap. Rather than delock & fill the door with filler. The hole is left but the lock barrel & rod to latch is removed.

So i would have to get central locking for it??

Where can i get some of them caps?

Universal central locking kits are available but I wouldn't attempt to fit them yourself as your a self confessed noob.

I'd be inclined to do some saving and get a decent cat 1 alarm and immobilser supplied and fitted. Do it legitimately through the books and you'll get an installation cert which would hopefully bring your insurance down a little.

You could also fit a switch for the fuel pump in a hidden place.

I have a fuel cut off thing that i bought but don't know how to fit it lol... hahahaha

I have a cut off switch for the fuel-pump and a steering wheel lock lol

i think novanoob12's car is a carb model, so all fuel cutoffs are useless with the mechanical pump.

Scrapping all that's been said apart from going to get an alarm sometime when i have money lol.

get a snap-off boss. anybody can nick a car if its just got an alarm, but without a wheel it wont be easy and the theif will look inside to see no wheel and just move onto the next car to steal as itl be easier.

the problem with having no doorlocks is that if somebody does break in, ul have to cover for either a bent door or smashed glass instead of just fixing a lock.

with my corsa tho i have it stripped out so nobody will break into it to steal anything, and if they wanted the car most of the times my fuel wouldnt work ;)

Remove door pins to deter bent doors.

NovaLad
20-12-07, 02:35 PM
Just unscrew them off?

Iain
20-12-07, 02:48 PM
Yeah or if you want to be a bit neater remove/cut off the rod coming from the locking mechanism.

Jack
20-12-07, 02:48 PM
...and remove the metal rod left. Although you can happily bend a door and get in even without door pins, you just have to bend the door further. Done it on a Corsa, and tbh it was a damned sight easier than going for the door pins.

Best option would be save some cash and get an alarm pro-fitted. Thatcham would be best, but you're looking at around ?300 for an approved alarm although you may well make that back over a couple of years of insurance savings.

How? When my doors are locked you cannot open the door using the internal handle.

Jack
20-12-07, 02:54 PM
Really? I managed it easily, although that was on a Corsa.

There is a Toad Ai606 alarm on ebay from a company called sound secure (i think) its only 200 quid fitted and its a really good alarm, Cat 1 alarm & immobiliser.

You have to cut the end of door pins off(you cant just remove the whole thing), as the end hook has to move the lock mechanism(it joins to the central locking solenoid)

And yeah as Iain said, you cant undo a nova door with the internal handle. Some cars unlock the door when you use the internal handle, but a nova one definently doesn't.

For a carb nova, get an immobiliser system on the ignition coil 12v, and the ignition barrel. Also, if its a mk2 "sort" the hazard switch.
