Hi all, just joined the forum and looking for some info / guidance.

Ive got an 1800 engine as found in the mk1/mk2 astras and cavaliers and am going to buy a nova to stick it in for a bit of a toy. my questions are

1. which is the best model to do the conversion. (the engine runs on carbs so no worry about fuel pumps and wiring etc)

2. aside from the original mounts etc that i have do i have to buy a stupidly expensive fitting kit. (bearing in mind this is a bit of fun and about my mechanical skills not a mint track car or anything?

Cheers guys

you need o/s mount you can make them, and spacers for the rear box mount
use an f13/15 box and gte/gsi shafts as you wont really be running that much power and engine wiring job done cheap as chips
?100 will sort you everything you need

so from that i basically fit the engine using the mounts that i have from the 1800 and i need to spacer the rear gearbox mount and alter / make a rh gearbox to chassis mount??

i did'nt make this but it has been home made,
the mount you need would probably pop up on ebay for ?10/20
or you can cut the mount off the chassis and weld it back on 2" lower down
and use the cav mount

if you look close you can see on the left top of the pic the chassis leg is dented/caved in this is to clear the alernator if you have a look through some of the projects you will see the corect way to do this is to cut it out and weld a plate in you will see it's done loads on here

iirc the f13/f15 WON'T fit the early big block 1.8. You'll need say an f16 and some nova gte driveshafts with cav mk2 1.6 inner cv's fitted.

Oh and just vaux trev, you need to use a mk2 astra gte 16v front mount if you're going to lower the o/s bracket/cradle. the cav mount is completely different.

/\ i knew it was one of them:roll:
never done it that way it would be just as easy go for
2.0 8v or xe if you can find one just fuel pump/tank
if you gotta change shafts/cv's too

what sort of power does a 1800 single point run
90/100 bhp???

something like that. the one i have runs about 130 due to a few little modifications i had done when it was in my astra mk1.

does the hassle to install change with any particular model of nova, is it easier with a gte etc or is it just the diesel thats different?
