Nova structure

Evening all. After some advice regarding the structure of a nova. If i was to cut where the blue line is on the image below and weld in a flat piece of sheet steel the rigidity of the shell will be affected? Baring in mind the cage.

Go by the same principal as the feck off great sqaure hole in the boot floor........

There to stop up & down flex when you sit on the rear bench
