How much of any accident? It's not uncommon for the front chassis legs to rotate back and deform the bulkhead, then it's new shell time. Also look for deformation around the crossmember mounting.

hey m8 i done the same 2 me old car and i couldnt work out what it was but i think it was the chassy that was a wee bit twisted, but if u didny have a sore hit then u will have 2 try replacing every thing on both sides and i mean everything

I think I'd go with the chassis too.. I aint no car expert mechanically but we smashed me m8s fiesta @ the front and smacked the front valence, right on the bit where the tie bar is connected, into a kerb and this bent the chassis a bit. Ever since then the front wheels were impossible to track and it was like this:

\---|

i.e. fucked :) Left front tyres got bald on the inside piss easy :(

Novas are weak where the cross member(the big square section under the radiator) meets the cassis legs, a combination of rust and the accident could have cuased this to crack and break, This can be strengthened and re welded or replaced. If it is the chassis it sounds serious!
