He's made up loads of sets for conversions over the years, and currently runs some in his GF's V6 Tigra without any problem.
plus i think the par that is welded on and that has the potential of being unbalenced doesnt have enough mass to make itself obvious
Have you earthed the gearbox to the chassis pal? :)

Alternator problem cured, driveshafts fitted, exhaust fitted, gear linkage set.
Problems: You can't use a MKII Cavalier starter motor as it hits the gear linkage, stopping R, 1,3, and 5 from engaging. Will have to get a MKIII one.
Still need a top hose but don't know which one to use?
Various fault codes from the ECU:
TPS - changed for a known good one, still does it.
Coolant temp sensor - brand new.
CO potentiometer - will try new AFM tonight.
One thing I am thinking about is the loom/ECU etc is from a G-reg Cavalier SRi, while the engine is from a MkII SRi130, which ran on Motronic ML4.1 as opposed to the later 1.5. Wonder if the loom/ECU is a bit funny.
Seems odd, as it starts on the button etc. I have a spare MkII loom and ECU that I found in the shed the other day so might fit that and see if the codes vanish.
looking goo top progres kee up the good work
Top hose is a standard nova one i think.
1.2/1.3
Yep, lee used my std 1.2 top hose, just cut down a bit.
Hope you get the faults sorted and get it on the road :thumb:

Here's all the clearance you get with a MkII Cavalier starter:
http://premium1.uploadit.org/bosshogg//bunc130stucklink.JPG
That was no good, so once again, my poor old 2.0 16v MkII Cavalier got robbed. Its crank sensor is already on my Nova, along with the cam cover. Now the starter motor is on Lynz's Nova.
Here's the difference, XE on left, old 8v on right:
http://premium1.uploadit.org/bosshogg//bunc130starters.JPG
And here's the difference it makes:
http://premium1.uploadit.org/bosshogg//bunc130xestarter.JPG
Got that sorted this morning, and then set about plumbing all the water pipes, and replacing the fibre hose from the pump to tank - it was badly perished, but I didn't have another, so some radiator hose did the trick as a temp repair.
It moves!

http://premium1.uploadit.org/bosshogg//bunc130almostdone3.JPG
Took it out round the yard and it seems OK. Nice and torquey :)
Problems: The core plug behind the dipstick is leaking quite a bit out its centre(?), so I'm going to chemical metal it tomorrow. Also need to cut down the gearbox mount bolt as it's hitting the gearbox. Nothing major though. The wiring needs tidied up too.
Fault codes: Checked the fault codes three times and the same every time, 16, 22, 65, 73. Seemed odd as it'd tick over and rev fine. Anyway, in true old Vauxhall fashion, they've vanished. Wonder if it just needed a drive to give the voltage a boost.
Engine sounds really good, smokes a bit, but seems to be clearing itself. Think it just needs a good run.
Could have it ready for the road by tomorrow afternoon if all goes well
Awesome, bet you want your GSi back now don't you?! It's sitting happily on my drive, I can see it through the window just now :) it won't be returned with a CD in it either, I'm doing a steal :p
Old skool 2L loooks right at home in the old skool shell

Good to meet you Lynz, love the car, retro cool :)
Hmm, should i have gotten one of those stickers lynz?
Car is loooking good, the seh suits it perfectly!
KR- Nice to meet you too :) Hoping we can get over to Ireland some time but will probably be next year now with the price of a weekend over there being more than a whole week on the continent lol
JH- Gotta keep your eyes open for Morris (Barton's boy) 'cos he's always handing them out ;)
Still haven't thought of a solution for the centre caps falling off so I had a tip off about some (set of 5, brand new with round Griffin) which I bought :) later on having a stroll through the Autojumble Dougie spotted a box of the square Griffin ones so I got another 4 of those. Oh and a couple of cans of Vauxhall China Blue paint for a quid each, bargain!
http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n225/lynz_sr/DSC00988.jpg
Ahh i see, cool.
I'd possibly be up for a trip over the water, you irish boys certainly know how to party!
If you're after one I'm sure I picked up quite a handful, I'll dig them out and pop you a couple in the post.
Lynz that'd be great! Bit of a momemto of the day! Pm on it's way!

Hi lynz the car looked really well..... i like!
NovaGuy- Nope, I tried calling the blooke but he mustn't have had signal as it kept going on his answer machine. Then my battery ran out :( Would have got them anyway- can never have enough lol.
Mr Brown Love- Cheers, looking good yourself! I just need the tailgate spraying and to get the Astra GTE seats in now.
Having trouble with the Throttle position sensor at the moment, to the point where I was sitting in 3rd gear at 50mph on the motorway with no power at all, so I unplugged it in the next services and drove the rest of the way back. Spot on without it but Dougie gave me a spare so I'll fit that tomorrow. Fingers crossed :p
Glad to hear the engines going well lynz, well besides the tps, and thank dougie for letting us on the stand, the only other place to park looked more like a swamp! lol
Hi Lynz if you have a sticker spare could you save one for me please.
Thanks in advance hun
x x
I've been running the Nova with the TPS unplugged for over 2 weeks now and the little thing seems perfectly happy!
Think Dougie has another one to try tomorrow so hopefully it'll be a success.
Me and the lil' one have been having a lot of fun though lol I'm really getting back into driving a Nova again now, feels like it was always meant to be :)
I will be regretting that on my 4 hour drive down to Bristol on Friday afternoon though!
Good stuff lynz! what's it like compared to driving the other halfs?
It's much tamer and more comfortable, still suprises people and feels lovely to drive but just doesn't quite give the same satisfaction I got from driving the brown one lol I want an LSD!!

What a thread! Fair play Lynz
im up for a tv sticker aswell
I've got the Cavalier back on the road now :D
Think the Nova deserves premature hibernation, it's not too well again at the moment. I started to drive down to Bristol on Friday and it conked out :( Dougie drove up and had a look at it (dedication eh!?) and found the wiring to the crank sensor is buggered inside. We left the Nova at home and ventured down together in the brown beast :)
We went to pick the Cav up from where it's stored, we wasted half the day sat in traffic because the M4 was closed GRRRR
Then took it back and the missus got going with a good ol' servicing. We took of the gay towbar too so it looks a lot nicer now.
Now I just have to work out a way to get the Nova down to the garage where my Cav was :scratchhead:
Plenty to be getting on with over the winter but I think I'll give Dougie a break, we have 6 months or so to get everything sorted so no hurry :)

Could have borrowed my trailer if you didnt take the towbar off lol. Id offer to go and get it but the clutch int he ovlov can barely drag itself along, let alone another car!
Thanks anyway Mr Reynolds :)
Oooh, what's this rather queer looking contraption? lol
Nova is tucked away in Dougie's garage for the time being, I think we'll have to make a 'to do' list soon. I'm currently enjoying non-Nova related activities such as watching 'salad fingers' :D
http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n225/lynz_sr/saladfingers.jpg
Right, the Nova has finally been dragged out of the garage :D Dougie got it running nicely (it's had a whole new loom since it was last on the road) and drove it over to his mate Darren's house. These are the last photos of our Novas together  now the 16v has gone to it's new owner.

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n225/lynz_sr/DSC02285.jpg
Almost there and the engine cut out and wouldn't restart. Luckily I was right behind him in the trusty Cav and we'd packed the towbar already, just incase. It was good practice as I was going to be towing the Nova Club back the next day. Cav SRis are great for towing :)

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n225/lynz_sr/DSC02318.jpg
Grant also welded my Nova subframes to the Astra GTE seats. Pics soon!
Nice work lynz! What's the club for? dougies replacement for the brown'un?
Same as ^^^
Didnt know you were having yours resprayed lynz, fair play! Same colour I assume?
I thought I had loads to write as we were bith off all week and working on the cars non-stop. Now I've put it into words it looks like bugger all!
The Club was an accidental purchase lol he's just going to break it. Sold the seats already (as you saw in the other thread) so hopefully get the rest stripped and take it to be weighed in on Saturday.
He has a new toy, I'll PM you a pic :D
Steve- yeah, same colour. The paint just doesn't polish up like it would have 1/4 century ago lol
Cool, hope its getting a 1.8 turbo engine!
Eh? How do you know about that? lol
I don't think that'll be going in my Nova but hey, if the SEH doesn't buck it's ideas up soon it could be a possibility!

Will be really nice once its all sprayed up Lynz
You heard anything else about these Total Vauxhall/Nova/PVS stickers on the previous couple of pages ?
i love that choco nova :P lol
Nova comming on well, will look great all repainted.
Vaughan- Sorry but despite repeated attempts from both myself and Dougie, we haven't been able to get hold of any of the stickers. Still trying though.
Bubba- I loved 'that choco nova' too but unfortunately there was no longer space in the toybox for it.
Still have them rear seats too.. If you ever want them say.

Please do PM me if you manage to get one :thumb:
Cheers Ben :thumb: I'm going to try again with the Astra cloth and see what I can manage but if I do bollocks it up I'll ask you.
Cool cool. As said i'll just leave them in the garage then..lol
Here are the brackets Grant made:
http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n225/lynz_sr/Photo-0010.jpg
Then he welded them to the seats and the subframes using a weave weld.
http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n225/lynz_sr/DSC01098.jpg
The seats :D they've been swapped over so that I'm using the passenger seat as it was in better condition than the drivers' seat and well, my derriere deserves the best.

Lovin dougies new ride, needs some banded steels and an let! lol.
Very nice,seats look sweet
Hope to see it at some shows this year Lynz :)
Yup, hopefully it'll be coming along to them all. If it starts to be cheeky I'll have to polish up the Cavalier instead though lol
Andy- cheers, all thanks to Grant's handywork or I'd be having a lot of difficulty fitting them.

Looking good, love the old skool look, steelies are perfect.
Cheers guys.
Yeah, I'm hoping it'll be ready by April. The main hurdle is the distance, what with it being at Dougie's and all. I can't just pop up in the evening for a couple of hours here and there, we just have to soldier on with it when we get chance.
Craig- Yeah I'm well chuffed with the seats :D he's done a great job.

very nice !!! i like!!
The car is now in primer :) A couple of areas to be concentrated on which were missed before, I expected more TBH.
Unfortunately Darren's little girl broke her forearm on Friday and he had to take her for an operation on Saturday, so we didn't get as much done on the car as we could have (damn shame, it was a lovely weekend too). Never mind, we got plenty of other stuff sorted and I'm becoming a dab hand at ratchet strapping things down so beware kids lol
I really want new bumpers but I think I'll leave it a while because I'm mega skint and although it's bonus time at the end of March, I don't think it's going to be a particually good one this year and I want to spend it on a camera.
So this should be done within the next week or so :D I can't wait to get it back out on the road!

Looks good lynz, just had a quick read through, i never knew this had a big block 8V, and i cant believe you have MK1 gte recaros, ive had a mint set in my room for nearly 2 years waiting for the right project! lol

Just read all through your thread again lynz and im loving it, im just collecting enthusiasm for mine and im heading in the right direction reading threads like yours, have some +Rep:thumb:
Aww, thanks. I'm glad to be having a positive effect on you :D
So happy with the progress the last month or so :thumb: I doubt it'll ever be 'finished' but they do say, 'Love is a journey, not a destination'. Yes, I will have some biscuits with that cheese please lol
Dash, seats and carpet are next on the list :) Just need to dye the carpet black, I've been told that matt black spray is ideal for the job so I'll go with that and see how it comes out.
Hopefully this engine (20SEH) will be sweeeet and all the arduous hours will have been worth it. Maybe we can go for something a bit cheekier next ;)
I only have a couple of phone pictures which probably don't do it justice, but Dougie has taken some on his camera which I'll post as soon as I receive :D

Get it back to Dougie's, take out the dash and fit the flocked one and also the Astra seats and my new/ old wheel. Need to retrim some rear Nova seats in Astra GTE cloth to match the fronts. Not entirely sure how to go about it as they're very different in shape but I'll do some research and give it my best.

Have to some how re-trim the astra cloth to the nova seats?
Sure Dougie will be able to finde some one to do it?
Looking good though, and futur plans sound ace.
Scott
John has already bought the carpet and is awaiting delivery lol
£30 for the dash and shelf, it's out of a 52k motor and I think that's a reasonable price :thumb:
Dougie has still got one brown carpet set. There is a small hole (50p size) in it near the accelerator pedal, which is a shame but would be covered by a mat. PM me if you're interested in either the dash or carpet, I'm going to bed now ;)
Cheers Scott :)
The interior has been on the backburner for a while, so we've not really asked about. Hopefully someone will be willing to take on this minor job but if not I'm happy to have a shot at it.

Can't Dougie pull a few strings and get you to be a tea girl for TV :p

this is looking great now; looks loads better on this than it did on dougies
Peester (sorry, I don't know your real name)- Thanks, I think it looks better because it's painted :thumb: And to think Dougie ALMOST sold it with it left on, until I had a great idea and fixed up a £6 Snowlpough from John H and swapped them over :p
John- My tyres are Yokohama A539, 185/50/14. Can I get that wheel soon please? Before I become a dirrrrty southerner?
