first of all i no it isnt a nova but my dear old mother has a fiat punto and the gearbox is shaged its really hard to shift into 1st and 2nd (really clunky) and reverse is almost imposible it just grindes!! i also noticed the travel on the clutch was pretty short, dont know if this makes a difference but thought i would mention it, with xmas coming up she doesnt want to spend load of money on a new box and cluch so i thought id post on here and see what you guys think before the garage takes all her money. Also i need a 5th gear in my car desperatly lol but i dont want to loose the ratios from my 4speed (speeds it does in 1st,2nd ....... ) is there a box i can put on? or will it just reduce my speed in each gear and end up being about the same top speed because id rather just go through 4 not 5 gears if so?1.0 life. cheers guys much apreciated in advance :thumb:

An F10WR 5 speed box has the same ratios for 1-4 as a 4 speed box, but has 5th aswell. However, the final drive ratio might be slightly different, but is not impossible to change if need be. I've not tried this into a 4-speed box, but if you remove the entire gear cluster from the 4 speed box, remove the circlip and pinion gear from the end of the output shaft, do the same for the 5-speed box, put the pinion from the 4 speed onto the 5 speed, then put the 5 speed cluster into the 4 speed box, using the 5 speed end cover, and you should be OK. The other way is to swap the pinions as above, then swap the diff from the 4 speed box into the 5 speed casing and re-assemble the 5 speed box.
