View Full Version : Rant revisited.... *smugface*

Some of you may remember back in January I had a bit of a rant about a couple of things that were getting on my proverbial goat in this (http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=74279) thread. One of which was the erection (stop sniggering at the back) of signage on the A37 about how dangerous the road is and how improvements are on the way:

1. On my way into work I drive a stretch of the A37, fron Yeovil to Ilchester. For some reason the council has decided to erect 3 signs at each end,the first saying something like "335 injuries in 5 years", but more words; the second says some guff about "Most accidents happen and road junctions -THINK!"; the third says "Road safety improvements for 2007" and the local council logo. Ok, firstly, I'm aware the A37 is supposed to have one of the highest accident per mile ratios for a UK road, but I'm assuming they're including animal fatalities in that "335 injuries" bit, as I'm b*ggered if I can recall even 5 accidents there in the past five years - and the local paper is the type to go all over car accidents. As for the accidents at road junctions: the majority of the road is a long straight stretch. With no junctions. The only used junction is one on the outside of a corner in a 40 zone, which everyone crawls round anyway as it has a gatso. No doubt the "road safety improvements" will be more of them, instead of actually spending money improving the road surface which is in the process of falling apart and sinking into the surrounding fields and the cause of any previous accidents there. Not to mention the rear enders that will be caused when people will no doubt be too busy reading the signs to look where they're going lol

Well, its now December 2007. The other day I had the pleasure (if you can call it that) of driving the full stretch of the A37.

Can you guess what "improvements" have been made?

None. Zilch. Nada. Zip.

Ok, well one section of road at Pye Hill near Pylle they've resurfaced one side going up the hill. Although as far as I'm aware all the accidents on that section seem to occur when travelling DOWN the hill. Aside from that, the road is exactly the same as it was in January.

I also noted a road near Alex, the A38 has the same signage put up (in fact more of it, even on the wrong side of the road) - but advertising improvements for 2008. Considering SCC failed miserably to get off their backsides and do anything to the A37 (aside from paint 50 metres of it with a new surface), I'm off down the bookies to bet ?1,000 on them not doing a thing to the A38 either!

Supprised?
Not in the slightest! You do know that the council is run by the care in the community people (The ones that need the care) i.e. the ones that dribble and have that vacant stare. It seems that they have to be given a job and since no one wants to employ them, the goverment has taken up to role and put them in the council offices.

Same goes for the Yeovil - Dorchester road, except the signs are at the junction, so as you read about the number of accidents and car pulls out in front of you and you have an accident.
