I bought+fitted that new oil cap as I thought it might be that, but it obviously isnt.

All I can guess is that the cambox is filling with oil and being forced out of the cap because I have a blockage somewhere.

Am I right or wrong, where should I start?

Cheers.

Crankcase is forcing it out due to excess pressure. I'd say you have a blocked breather pipe.

Sort before you use it any further as pressure in the crankcase can lead to starvation of oil to the mains etc.

how much oil you got in it?? try some type of engine flush first. i recomend forte.only cus we use it at work but there are probably some beter ones out there

Aye check the breathers.

and put the pan handle back on the filter :p

Oil level was midway between the hi+lo markers before I drove to town and back.

I'll go check the breathers.

The pan handle was lopped off because the warm air feed rusted through, and the flap in the pan handle started to make loads of noise at idle speed.

Cant see the point in that tbh, its useless whichever way you look at it... :p

So...emulsified oil seems to have blocked the breather tube, whats likely to have caused that?

Whats this tube that comes from the inlet manifold with a screw in the end?

Cheers.

Can I run it (at idle) with the breather hose off?

yes, but all that crap will slowly find it's way round your engine bay.

Do you use the car often? What colour is the oil in the sump?

finally what does the contents of your header tank look like?

EDIT: I recon its that pierburg carb ;) lol

The car is used daily. Oil in the sump is black. Header tank contents are dark grey.

hhmmm, fairly standard issue then.

It could be that there is a blockage in that pipe and where the oil brething up has been sat in there, it's turn to mayo. You could just clean the pipe out and see what happens off the next few days. The hose isn't split at all?

Doesnt seem to be split, but had a slight kink when i took it off.

Yeah, but obviously the engine will pull unfiltered air through the hole in the air box.

Clean the breather pipes out.

Breather pipe has been cleaned out with carb cleaner, as has the bit where it meets the airbox, which seemed to be the culprit.

What is the pipe for that I circled in red above?

Thanks for your help guys.

Its another breather.

So thats what the other hole on the underside of the airbox is for?

Thanks for everyone's input. :)

It now seems to be fixed.

Hmm, off my head, the small breather pipe comes from the box thing on the back of the block(with the big breather)
And goes to the inlet

The airbox has connections to the small flap thing in the long bit of the airbox)which you've binned)

I once had a breather box (the black metal bit) block up & I dosed it with caustic soda, followed by a good steam cleaning. it was on an ex nasa 1.2 & it had been run on Wilko multigrade oil.

Good to know, if it happens again I'll whip that box off and have a look.

It has been run on cheap oil for the last few changes.
