Hello Guys,

I have a good old mk1 1.2 carb. Now in the morning and when its cold shes a right slag to get going, have to leave it running for about 10 minutes with the choke fully open and then run the choke about quarter open for 10 minutes while driving the car or else it will just cut out.

After that its fine, although sometimes it cuts out while having the radio on and putting the clutch in at junctions etc.

What could I do? Could it be an issue with the choke? The carbs?

would Carb cleaner help?

Once you've serviced it, including new dizzy cap, rotor arm, spark plugs, ht leads etc.. spray the entire ignition setup with ignition sealer on a dry day. Do it when the engine is cold so that you dont set the stuff on fire by spraying it onto a hot exhaust manifold. After you've done that try using some redex poured directly into the carb.

Also, check the gearbox-chassis earth strap, if it looks at all corroded then renew it, theyre only about ?2.
