W code in the dashboard ?

Hi there,

I have a '89 Astra Mk2 (Kadett E) 1.3 and I want to swap the dashboard for one with a rev counter.

I have a dashboard from a Vauxhall (or Opel) that fits in there but it have a different W code. The current is W=1125 and the replacement one is W=1024.

Does anyone knows what this W means?
Is this a code of the transmission ratio?

yeah often wondered that meself. I have a 1.2 mk2 and my w code is 1849. Phoned Vauxhall and they said the ref w=xxxx is just an id code for their reference for the clock faces. Each one is apparantly set differently based on engine etc...

it's based on the final drive cog... my 1.2 van had a different w-xxxx from all the other 1.2 i had seen

So if do the swap I'm going to have erratic speed and Kms readings?
