going to be having my flywheel lightened by an engineer by me.
they wanted to know any tolerences that can be taken off??

any ideas or is there somewhere i can find out?
also has anybody got any images of there lightened flywheel?

Hmm, if they dont know entirely how much to take off, i dont know if i'd trust them doing it.

You only really want a proper automotive engineer doing flywheel lightening, as a bit too much material taken off, and it could end in disaster(seriously)

I agree with above, would seek a machine shop that does this type of work, luckily I now a few around me

it will also need to need balanced

I think my 1.3SR flywheel is @ 4.5kgs, but not as radically machined as that!

Looks good, got a pic of the other side?

I had my 1.6 one lightened (still have it) however only have it done by someone that has experience & does them regularly.

If it gives out, you are looking at a buzz saw slicing up your gearbox bellhousing & ripping into the car & maybe hurting a passenger. Think between the legs!

ok thanks guys.prob get a billet one now as it seems the better way.found one for 160 from mspd, think its a good price so ill get that one.cheers.

Theres a guy on MIG web 'vxlgsi' i think, he sells billet flywheels, decent stuff and good price, got one on my LET.
Worth a look

its hard to say how much to take off. obviously the more taken off of the outer edge of the flywheel the more lighter the rotating mass. however you can over lighten a flywheel. if not done correct they can shatter. perhapse you could use a flywheel off a smaller engined nova, im not sure if a 1.2 flywheel is lighter than a 1.6 but would be worth a look see.
