thinkin of doing away with the injection system on my gsi as it has too many problems,
is it worth putting a 1.4sr carb and inlet manifold on??
if so what shall i do for a coil etc?

if you did you would have to use the 1.4 dizzy/ ignition module, the 1400 inlet are square so you would have to get the inlet matched to the head. fuel pressure regulator, Get rid of the ecu and i think you need to use a mechanical fuel pump. Think thats about it. Dont know about performance i persume it would suffer.

ok great , sounds like alot of work just to sort an idling and flat spot problem think ill try and sort my original injection system.

Dave, do you have the earlier GSi or later?

I've seen a GSi with the Weber 32/34 DMTL carb before. Lot of work for minimal gain though. Poorer cold start & economy etc.

probably the best option

lmfao you want to replace an EFI system with an unreliable designed in the dark ages carb......

you will lose power and respect lol.

Whats up with the EFI system?

The Jetronic albeit rather dated cant really go wrong IMO.

Clean the ICV, setup the TPS & make sure the AFM isnt knackered.

Assuming its an E16.

[edit] Last idea. Check the pipe from airfilter/AFM to throttle body/inlet has no holes or leaks. This will cause hunting & poor idling symptoms.

Throttle position Switch is on the back of the throttle body. Black unit with loom plug on it.

When the throttle is moved (slightly) it should click. And only click when the throttle is moved a tiny bit. You can adjust it on the throttle spindle if this isnt happening.

AFM, maybe leave til last, but I'd just try another. Prolly not the problem tbh.

ICV is bolted to back of cam cover area with a black air hose running from either side of it & a loom plug. Remove the pipes & spray/soak through with carb cleaner thoroughly.

Then take it to be set up at a decent garage or Bosch specialist maybe. You can alter the idle speed by the screw on the TB & theres a CO setting on the AFM unit.

Whats the problem with the current engine?

its idles all over the place some times at 2000rpm and take it for a drive then its at 500rpm and has flat spots when accelerating hard at 3ooorpm and 5ooorpm!!!
