Hi,
had my escort cosworth about a month now, so it was time to start pulling it apart. its a large turbo on a k plate with 40k on the clock.
this is how it was when i got it last month;

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v211/dan16v/Picture066.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v211/dan16v/Picture067.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v211/dan16v/Picture071.jpg
First job was to remove the front bumper so i could fit the standard head lights back in, fit some rs500 fog light grills and take the bumper mesh and brackets off for powder coating.
the bumper is off at the moment as im ordering a c/c front bib and hockey sticks in matt carbon look.
I have also removed the chrome sill covers and replaced them with some realy nice carbon fibre jobbies from Radman on pf.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v211/dan16v/Picture076.jpg
next job was to remove the interior, remove all the ice install/cables and fit the nice new centre console and gear gaitor that was provided with the car!, also had to remove a gear stick lock that was fitted to the car and came up through the console!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v211/dan16v/Picture077.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v211/dan16v/Picture078.jpg
 it has a boot now!! full tool kit is present and the std towing eye still with the ford sticker on it.
interior is back in, but need to go to ford and order some plastic sill cover screws and need a black allen headed bolt that holds the rear bench in place!.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v211/dan16v/Picture074.jpg
bumper hung in place to see what the grills look like! also may see the carbon bumper grill blanks also from Radman!
ive also wax oiled all the metal on the car behind the bumper.
thats it for now, next on the want list is a set of konis on a 30mm drop, and either some rondells or new shape mo's in anthresite, also would like an msd stage 3 set up at some point.
i can see iam going to spend sh*t loads on this car:cry:

nice dan , i love cossie's myself, whats it like compared to your nova then ?

dan16v
27-11-07, 05:45 PM
Feels slow compared to the nova! its only on a stage 1 chip (280bhp) s/s system, air filter and group n head gasket, but they are heavy cars with the 4x4.
it does feel very safe and stable though, and drives like a new car!:) stage 3 is about ?600 and give aprrox 340bhp:D

Riggy
27-11-07, 05:49 PM
lol its not often you get to say your cossie is slower then your nova PMSL :thumb:

You still got the Nova?

dan16v
27-11-07, 06:51 PM
yup still got the nova!
NJ i want the new style 6 spoke mo's as i dont like the way the old style curve, and the fact the spoke is not continued to the outer rim, would get they in the light grey/ anthresite colour i think!

dan16v
27-11-07, 06:53 PM
like this but not in white!,

mint! Rondells arnt to bad, they are about ?1200 plus the vat i think.
i removed the lights as i just hate them! when ever i see twin head lights on any car i just think chaved up, also alot of things that suit coloured escorts dont seem to suit white ones if you get me?

Jimbo they do the standard wheels in 18's now but i think you need to run a spacer if you want to run the large ap brake set up, which i will be wanting to do!
Riggy i will get a picture at some point! it isnt as bad as you may think for visability!

I think they are all 4x4?

Out the factory, all 7145 production line built Escort Cosworths built were 4x4.

All 500 RS500's were RWD.

Sierra RS Cosworths are all 4x4 where as the Sierra Sapphire Cosworths are all RWD.

Bet you haven't got many friends left; with you owning a Escort Cosworth and an M3 lol I know i'm jealous ;)

dan16v
26-07-09, 12:53 PM
Benn cosworth looms tend to cause problems when old, and you can get voltage drop through the old fuel pump looms, so id rather replace it all and know everything is 100% as im upping the power (only to stage 3). More to the point, the new one looks alot better!lol

I still have a few friends left lol

dan16v
26-07-09, 12:59 PM
If i was shoving an extra 100hp on any car Benn id renew the fuel pump live at the very least, last thing you want is voltage drop to the fuel pump, Engine loom was mainly for looks as said, and there was nothing wrong with the old loomlol

Cheers guys!
Never lost the live as such, been on a 3/4 year waiting list to get the car restored as I only wanted people working on it that know how they come apart as prices for these cars have gone nuts now along with the parts!.
It's stage 3 now with rs500 intercooler and .55 T34 hybrid so about 340hp, nothing special but much over that and you risk the gearbox and diffs.
I didn't have a 1.6 16v nova, I had the let nova on autronic and T3 garret : ).
As well as painted the car is having new looms and loads of other bits so it will be delivered back with an mot.

Also decided to add some more power so 380-400 hp, new chip/ Siemens injectors.
Also thought it would be rude not to add anti lag as the standard ecu can run it etc.
With the added power I also have some AP cp5200's to go on with 330mm disk/bell setup so stopping should be better.
Then will be off to get the car setup

2018, few upgrades planned prior to MOT in April.

New mongoose exhaust
Fit new bonnet release cable
Oil and filter change
Fit toe shims on rear as after lowering it runs toe out which makes it nervous in fast corners.
Hopefully the shims will take it back to toe in. ( will get alignment check at mot.
New gearbox, either helical fixit full gearset or Pete Dougherty
box with straight cut 2nd and 3rd (the 2 weak gears) as this also leaves 5th gear nice and quiet for the motorway.
When new box in turn boost up to 30-32psi peak (currently peaks 26psi

Put abit more toe in on the front and shims were already installed but year prior the rear was reading toe out.

Handling is still nervous on turn in, the konis are on softest setting and tester said it was quite bouncy as he reversed it over the brake rollers on the rear.

Going to firm it up although sure on these shocks it only adjusts rebound so can’t see it making much difference

Maybe higher pound springs, then you can stiffen the shocks up to suit?

dan16v
17-05-18, 11:03 PM
I don’t want higher poundage Benn as really don’t want a crashy ride.
I think these shocks are only adjustable for rebound so will have a play and see what happens.

Any luck with your car and the oil?

Dave Lee does them if you need some

EFR all fitted now and radtec radiator with spal fans.
Unfortunately when the old turbo was removed it appears my head gasket had been leaking coolent down the side of the block for some time, ties up as did have to top the coolent up every month or so.
Head had a light skim and fitted a metal WRC head gasket.
Few jobs to do now before it can go to James at autodynamix for new ecu and mapping.

I can't fault the 996 turbo except the seats, the bolsters should of been bigger and since they're electric they weigh too much for my liking. The 997 was just a facelift so I'd hold out for a 991 turbo but again more expensive and out my reach

dan16v
08-10-19, 07:43 AM
If I had one it would be a manual 997 for the facelift front end and more modern interior personally.

Plenum fitted as less restrictive flow wise, also tidied up the bay as vac fittings are either end.
Had a mate turn down a boss and laser weld it into the manifold for temp sensor as this inlet does not usually have a

I can imagine selling it is very tempting based on current prices! Same but nowhere near the same numbers, I?m watching e46 M3 prices rise but had mine 10yrs this year. Hard to part with.

House build looks good - you still south coast?

Nova project has seem some good progress since COVID for sure, but we are now moving house and garage/workshop space is limited, so could stall things. Life is good tho [emoji4]
