After thinking my gearbox was leaking but then finding out it was oil I thought that it shouldn't be too bad to get sorted. Now being crap at mechanics I went to the garage to get a price. I told him the problem and he said it is a big job! After finding out on here that it is my crankshaft oil seal the bloke said it's the rear one. I'm providing the parts and just for fitting it's gonna cost me ?110! Now I'm willing to pay that, but does that sound about right? Or is there anyone near the Sheffield area thats willing to do it?
there is nothing that difficult about it, just a little time consuming as u need to remove the cam belt etc. u take it out by screwing in a screw, then levering that out with some pliers, knock in the new 1, job done, and probly drain ur oil out b4 u start. good opertunity to do an oil change!!

Yeah the bloke did say the gearbox would have to come off and thats what made it so expensive for fitting. All that for a seal but its gonna have to be done.

I've got to do this too.....I've got a nice oil-leak from that end.
I'm gonna whip the engine out and give it all a good clean and polish in the process though!

Rich_dale- this is your previous car! I'm having some right probs with it.
And my car has developed a new problem that I need advice on. My car won't go into 4th gear! Since I've had the car its been hard to get into gear sometimes, 4th been the worst and now it won't go into it full stop :x
Is it my gearbox, clutch or gear-linkage? PLEASE SOMEONE HELP.

:O
Is that you Stuart?
What's wrong with it??? I had not one prob all the time I had it (except when the old 1.2 engine went bang of course!)
I had never had probs with the gear box.....1st could occasionally be a pain to get unless "completely" stationary but that was it.
Maybe the linkage has got bent or something? The clutch should be fine since if was brand new when the engine was fitted last year. The box it's self should be ok?
I'm confused and sorry to here that you're having probs with it :(
