Well my Macafee antivirus/internet security suite was up for renewal and after checking out their site low and behold my current program is lo longer valid and virus definitions arent available any more and I need to buy a new one! Which is going to cost me ?60!

FECK RIGHT OFF!

So I went hunting and came across one called Bitdefender 2008. Cost me ?25 for a year and was downloaded in a few minutes. Full internet and virus security

Uninstalled Macapish and installed Bitdefender. Took 5 mins and was easy.

After it had updated itself (couple of reboots) I did a deep scan and was shocked at the amount of virus/adware it detected! All this Myway search bay rubbish as well as a few other scarey bits and bobs...

So - what the feck had macafee been doing for the last 12 months apart from slowing my pc right down (like norton used to)?!?

Who knows.

Now when I turn on my PC it takes 30 secs max to boot up everything and I no longer need to wait the better part of 5 minutes whilst macafee attempted to downloaded the latest definitions (which it never did) and fanny****d about doing whatever it didnt do!

Bitdefender - highly recommend it! It also has a gaming feature which puts it on minimal mode whilst still protecting your pc

SMART!

You should of searched lime wire for one instead of paying up. Thats the best way to get round. I used to have norton, it did absoutley fcuk all for me. Ended up killing my computer!!!

You say bitdefender is good? I'm looking for a new one when i get my laptop back.

I'm trying really hard here to not be a Linux fanboy and preach about lack of requirement for an anti-virus...

I use AVG (Free) when I need to use Windows and has never let me down.

AVG here too. Feck paying for something lol

Panda ActiveScan is also a winner for on-demand stuff too IMO.

Used AVG for years now, the paid for anitvirus programs like macaffe and norton seem to cause more problems than they solve, its surprising anyone still uses them.
