none starter (HELP)

Ive got a 1.6 gte engine on carbs and aftermarket ignition system, only has 12v feed and earth but whenever i have the king lead on the dizzy the starter motor sounds like its locking up and smokes, but when i pull the king lead off it spins over fine?!?!?! anyone any ideas? all earth points seem fine

Nope Shes brand spanker,any one know if i can time it up 180 degrees out? its a proper head scratcher!!

i had this problem with my nova..i was checking for hours and checked all my earths etc.. didnt know what to do next, so swapped starter motor and she started first turn of the key..

i would put my money on the starter as mine went really slow and jammed and started smoking!

i took the cam from my other engine and tried to dial it into my dfferent engine so i guess thats the probelm i dont think its the starter cos its fine when the king lead is off and spins over as normal, cheers for the help

so looking at the diz do i need to turn it clockwise then toward the bulkhead?
