Ok winter has landed and some of us have parked the cars up for the chilly season. Naturally this normally leads to long awaited repairs or little extra's added whilst the chance is seized.

The big question is what are YOU doing to your car during this period ready for the new season next year.

Me personally i have 2 front wheel bearings to sort out, about 7 bolts to replace (yep the solid mounts i erm made did the job that well they found out which bolts werent totally 100% lol ) and finally asctually remember to crank the car over occasionally. There are more things that will be pondered on like i do every winter, but the last 3 winters have resulted in no changes at all and its the same things every year lol

didn't think you could legally toe a nova with a corsa, due to trailer and car weighing more than the car towing them

in the meantime tho, instead of messing with my current nova, im just going to have fun driving it :) afterall, winter is the best time for driving ;)

I have just put rear coilovers on but not managed to really try them out due to no tax or fuel in it.
Next job is pedal box as the Nova GSI servo now with 4 pot on the front and 2 pot on rear is stretched beyond its limits.

Got a scratch on rear quarter to sort that i managed to do pushing car into garage!

I have to dust the car and fix the broken hub. I won't be using the machined down hubs again so I will have to get some machining done to fit the bigger bearings.

If I get a job I may also build another engine for it.

only reason mine is off the road for the winter is lack of money, I am trying to save up a bit. Although whilst it is off the road i will be buying the rest of my sportex exhaust system (manifold and decat)
General tidy up here n there, sort out a bit of rust that is making an appearence under one arch

tom_beverley
23-11-07, 12:39 PM
Too much to bear thinking about lol

1. Finish tidying small areas on the shell
2. Save up to get the car resprayed inside and out and new arches fitted
3. Clean the underside and wheel arches and paint up
4. Already MOT'd thankfully so that saves a job, but need to update log book then tax and insure
5. Buy some new seats
6. Get suspension powdercoated
7. Refurb front coilovers
8. Get head port matched to both manifolds
9. Run newly built engine in
10. The unforeseen problems which take forever

And not to mention complete about six pieces of university coursework at the same time :D

I'm going to get my engine stripped out to see whats what. Once I know what the damage is i'll be able to assess whether a re-build is feasible. Its had an overbore already and the piston tolerances are very fine so it may have damaged itself beyond repair. If the engine is fooked I'm not sure what I'll do......
I've been feeling the need for serious speed ever since I went out in an Ultima & was toying with the idea of breaking it and going for a more dedicated trackday car - possibly a bike engined single seater kit car. However research has revealed that to get something significantly better than the nova would require a lot of time and money that I really cant justify at the moment especially as I probably wont get to more than 3 or 4 trackdays a year anyway.

As far as my Nova goes, at the moment it's probably more likely that I'll sell anything of value off it and scrap whatever's left than actually do anything to get it even near finished.

The Vectra will be getting it's knackered rear manifold sorted and after that I'll be saving my **** off for a house deposit, come to the comclusion that I've wasted more than enough time and money on cars and really need to sort my life out lol.

As per olly's post my plans have changed but more so than anyone elses on this thread, i have just purchased a wide arch shell with a few main essentials (many thanks stu), this means i am going to be building another nova from the ground up but to hopefully a higher spec than the grey one (and thats pretty comprehensive lol).

i'm hoping to have it rolled out by march, first up will be the body and chassis prep, and certain changes to the front geometry. The respray has already been set up through a good mate of mine who owns a body shop so no worries on that front. Some parts from the grey one will work their way over onto it, but the biggest parts like grey shell and my beloved 8v engine are to be sold to fund this new project    gutted but the options are limited.

still going to be small block, or going big block 16v?

Dan
25-11-07, 08:22 PM
unfortunately the mount has been lowered and rewelded properly so the only option is xe which is heart breaking tbh, but it just means the engine i got with it can stay in standard form and i will use my limited knowledge to work on the other important area's to make it alot faster on track. it will also be so much lighter than my current car so the xe will in no way hinder the handling ;)

Ste L
25-11-07, 08:38 PM
i think dar's prove's a well set up xe can handle, so it wont be all that bad..

with it have a wide arch kit, you going to do a wide track kit, and use equal lengh shafts?

Dan
25-11-07, 08:48 PM
oh no doubt xe's handle, what i was meaning was the weight difference is of no issue anyway as i can counteract that to an extent so it should handle similar to the small block which does make a small difference. coupled to the widetrack options it might turn out alot better than i hope it to

Ste L
25-11-07, 08:54 PM
