how do i get it to read from the sim contact instead of phone memory or memoory card

i ve gone in to setting it wnats me to choose between phone memory or memmory card <does not mention sim ?

Menu > Contacts: Options > SIM Contacts > SIM Directory

...according to the help system on the phone. Will just check that in a mo with a different sim card in my phone.

but once i ve stopped looking at the sim an locked keypad etc it goes back to looking at the phone memory i want it to use sim memory as default or both together ?

You'll need to copy the sim contacts across to the phone memory.
