Horrible first post topic, so my apologies for that. I've had a good search but can't find many answers.

I'm looking at getting a 1.4 SR as a daily run-around, mainly because my current car is much too heavy on the consumption. I was curious as to what figures I could expect from the SR, on both the standard pierberg and on a 32/34 webber (assuming both are set-up and jetted properly).

I've had a couple of Novas over the years (and raced a GTE this year), but they've either been poverty-spec or very heavily-tuned - this will be my first "normal" one!

Cheers for any help.

You wont see a huge gain with a 32/34, as the carbs basic design is the same.
Probably a few bhp gain, but the weber has better throttle response, and is a better carb.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not too fussed about performance gains, just the economy really. I'm getting too old for fast road stuff!

Can the weber be better on consumption than the standard carb?

Yeah, because it has a manual choke.
The std carb's auto choke has a habit of sticking on, wasting fuel.

So what kind of mpg should I be expecting?

30ish IMO

About right yeah. Impossible to say for sure, depends on engine setup, how its driven etc.

Ta.

There was some info on "check that car" (sorry, I can't post the link yet) that reckoned 42mpg - that's proper tat, is it?

I was getting 40+mpg on the morning run accross town no problem (little traffic, easy on the pedal). But in rush hour traffic it only dropped into the 30's.

If I got heavy on the pedal and made use of the second choke I could get it down to 15mpg!
