It would probably fit, but you'd have very little compression and you would lose power.

First of all.
"no text speak" is a rule of the site.

The head would physically bolt on, but your inlet manifold etc wont match the head ports, and you'll be way down on compression. So it wont be much good.

ENGLISH!!!!!

stop text typing or leave....

Is it a long term power gain that you are after, or merely trying to get it a bit faster before you put an XE/LET in (then write it off :p )

sorry im just used to texting well what can i do to a 8 v 1.2 to make it the fastest 1.2 poss?????

as said, do you want it as a long term thing and ACCEPT that its not going to be a fast car... just a fast 1.2. And accept that its not going to be that driveable, unreliable and probably eat itself.....

Or is it a temporary fix until you get a big boys engine?

Look for my feature car in the 1.2's section. It never got finished/run (scrapped before the end) but the engine spec would certainly make it the msot powerful N/A 1.2 8v. But It would be peaky, revvy, rather expensive etc.

Strip it to within an inch of its life. Every possible bit of plastic, sound deadening or metal you don't need, chop it out. Ditch the heater and fit a heated windscreen. Fit the lightest seat(s) you can find. Replace bumpers, bonnet, wings and tailgate with fibreglass items.

Fit some 16v brakes and decent discs/pads. Proper dampers and springs, think Avo, Bilstein etc (so not just some pi or gmax 60mm springs). Lightweight wheels - Volk, OZ - and sticky tyres.

THEN think about modding the engine ;)

Doesnt say if its a carb or SPi 8v.

Tbh a 1300 is far far quicker than any 1200. My advice is be grown up about it, leave it standard & bide your time.

As Jack says, stripping out un necessary parts & weight loss is free BHP essentially.

You are completely dis-illusioned if you think tuning a 1200 will make it quick (in a road going sense).

It will be fast for a slow car and thats about it...

It still amazes me how fast say a 1300 mk2 Astra is compared with a 1200 Nova.

Where the 1.2 power band comes to an end (I guess 4200 rpm) the 1.3 starts to really come alive.

A ex-Astra, scrapped 1300 8v engine would make a far more cost effective mod than even putting a K&N on a 1200. (which we all know does nothing except annoy your neighbours). Then you will get to the other side of 100mph.

1.2 carb block, arp rod bolts, 1.6 gte head pref port n polished (try blydenstein engineering b++ head), lairy cam (i.e 300 deg), t40's, f13cr, 2.0 brakes. had this in my k plate saloon, went like stink, rr'd at 98 bhp at 7688rpm, oh and run it on optimax, change the oil every 3000, and it will fly!!!!!!! :)

just wait till you can afford a decent engine, not being disrespecful, just being honest! lol

The amount of hassle of 'tuning' a 1200 isnt worth it when you consider how much easier it would be to just drop in a 1600 lump.

Hope this helps

Not neccessarily.

One thing worth mentioning is that you could skim a 14/16se head to get the compression back.

Source a 1300 or 1400 SR engine, there about ?60 quid and you start with around 70 odd bhp. Insurance group 6 or 7 aswell.

Yep, 13 or 1400 is your best bet if you just want a bit more power for now. :thumb:

Its not all about power. Although its a 1.2. It doesnt have to look like a Chavvy's idea of "RUDE". Think more of Show car, rather than track. ;)
