Ipod nano 3rd gen

Well after a load of hints i think my gf wants an ipod of xmas, I dont have one myself so im not sure on this one but i remember hearing someone tell me once that only itunes can be played on them? She isnt a subscriber to itunes and like most of us has a computer full of the free download verity :D can someone shed some light on this for me??

Any mp3 files can be played on an iPod (and a few other music encodings I think?), including the "free download" variety lol iTunes is an application (free) that you use to put music on to your iPod.

If you have a Windows computer then getting an iPod and putting your current music collection on it shouldn't be a problem. :)

there are a few non Apple programs that work too (bit of googling will help)

Ive found that iTunes kills a windows based pc... funny that lol.
