XE should return decent MPG too, in a light car such as the Nova.

get an 8 valver they're cheaper, stronger and wont cost as much if it does break could also go old skool with some twin 40s and a fast road/rally cam maybe?

Cheaper... Not by much at all, both pretty similar in price.

Stronger... Hows that then, the bottom end is the same, and the top end just has an extra cam and 8 more valves?

Wont cost as much if it breaks.... Only if you bust all the valves or manage to break both the cams lol

8v v 16v? IMO the differences are...

8v's are slightly easier to do the conversion on, purely as theres more room around the back to get your pinkies in. Other than that, conversion is the same.

Performance? Some will say the 8v has more grunt. Maybe up to about 2000rpm. Then the XE is far superior in all aspects.

Maintainance. 8v is easier to change the cambelt and waterpump in situe. Other than that, all samey samey.

Put an XE in it. Youll only regret it when you get bored of the 8v.

:thumb: thanks alot every one again;) made my mind up well a mate of mine gave me a1.6 8v for free and have stripped it down to have inlet powder coted and rocker cover and all other bits that can be coated or polished i used to stay away from modding cars and brought them all ready done but due to this when things went wrong it took for ever to find the problem due to the last owners bodging so i set about makein my own. got the nova for ?150 1.0l a few owners about 4 and its ony done 44,000 miles hade a few problems with it as it has plugs and points and was runninga 9v coil insted of a 12v but now she is fixed for the engine im going for a skimmed head port and polished fast road cams and work on the bottom end, new shells and so on this might sound sad but i can now say evey thing about her:D going for the euro look with gun meatel grey top half of body shell and deep dish wheels, waiting for my coil overs to turn up slammed as low as i can get her as she will be rolling on 14"s i will keep you all posted but any suggestions welcomed thanks corsaslanni.:p
